Luca
pang of guilt twanged its way across Luca’s conscious at the small choking sound Jacey made when he’d unveiled
her new work schedule, but he ignored it. She deserved everything she had coming after sabotaging a major client
account. This is how things worked in the professional arena. She’d thrown herself in the ring, however unwisely,
and he would do his part to deliver a full knock-out. But it would have been more pleasurable to throw his last
verbal punch if she hadn’t looked so tired. And pale — her fault, of course, for continuously interjecting herself
into places she wasn’t welcome. Like Genesis & Sons.
Eventually, she would pack up her bag of tricks and leave. No one could ke ep the schedule he’d specifically
tailored for her over the next few weeks, not even himself. He was wagering she would quit in a week.
He rubbed a hand over his jaw and moved out of her line of vision to stand in front of the wall of windows.
Jamming his hands in the pockets of his slacks, he stared unseeing across the bustling riverfront.
Unfortunately, watching Jacey leave his family’s firm wasn’t something he would relish. It should have been, but
it wasn’t. Truth was he was going to miss her. He was going to miss every inch of her delectable tall slender frame
and traitorous heart. And thanks to one ill advised tryst, he was also going to miss her scent and taste, her touch
and her kisses.
The truth of how he felt about Jacey Maddox rocked his carefully planned career, his brutally organized world, his
formerly well-insulated heart. He wanted her, despite all she’d done to hurt him and his family.
He wanted her in his arms and in his life.
It was his private little hell to bear. Thank God no one ever needed to find out.
