Luca
uca stared after his maddening personal assistant until the elevator door snapped closed. He fisted his hands on his
desktop, denying himself the urge to go after her. His gut said she had no intention of visiting a doctor. He wished
he was in the position to make her.
Unfortunately, anything in volving her outside the scope of office work was none of his concern. She’d made that
clear enough.
Then again, she could be faking the whole illness thing. He’d always been a good judge of character, a quick study
of the vast range of human emotions, but never before had anyone puzzled him as much as Jacey Maddox. Or
challenged him. Or so thoroughly captivated and bewitched him.
He shook his head.
She was a born flirt, so it was unwise to read anything into latest shenanigans. He knew this, yet he’d been fool
enough to try to goad a reaction from her by bringing the snobbish Katerina to his office. He’d wanted Jacey to see
him with another woman, though he hadn’t counted on Katerina turning it into a make-out session. Either way, it
was a petty move that should have been beneath him. He wasn’t sure what he’d hoped to achieve. To make Jacey
angry? To spark a bit of jealousy?
Instead, in true Jacey style, she had turned the tables and created a humorously uncomfortable situation for
Katarina, rendering him all the more entranced by his personal assistant.
When she’d offered him the zip drive and turned the word boss into an insult, he’d wanted to haul her into his lap
and claim her sassy mouth right then and there, flu bug and all.
His breakfast date had been none too happy when she left, demanding to know if there was anything between him
and his new “secretary.” He wanted to shake Jacey for her shenanigans, but he was
still too busy catching his breath from his quick and searing response to them.
He pushed to his feet, swinging away from his desk to pace his penthouse office suite. What was it about the
woman that climbed under his skin and shot through his veins every time they got near each other?
He didn’t know how much longer he could fight it, whatever it was.
Attraction? Lust? Something else? Best to stick to his original plan. The sooner he drove her away from Genesis &
Sons for good, the sooner he could regain his peace of mind.
A slow grin worked its way to the surface and tugged his mouth at the thought of what she would do when she
found out Le Anne had already transcribed the meeting notes. He’d still pay Jacey for the overtime, of course, but
she would have wasted hours of her weekend.
He’d be sure to blame her for not checking the other folders, including the one he’d purposefully mislabeled that
contained Le Anns’s notes.
Eventually, he was going to find the right button, push it, and watch Jacey Maddox explode.
