"I have things to do here, unlike at my own company, where I'm just a mascot. I don't have to do anything, and I still get paid for it."
It was a high salary at that.
On top of that, whether it was her older brother or cousins, they would give her pocket money every day, and it would be more than her actual salary.
Money was the one thing she never lacked.
Chloe hummed softly. “I've spoken to your direct supervisor. If your efficiency keeps up, starting tomorrow, they'll assign you more tasks. You won't be getting paid for nothing."
When Jane and Iris, who were walking behind the two girls, heard that, Jane said to Chloe, "Don't overwork Callia. She's just here to learn.”
"It's fine, Aunt Jane. I can keep up with the workload. Having things to do helps me learn faster."
Chloe smiled and said, "Just take my mother's words with a grain of salt. You don't need to follow it too strictly. Adults are always like this. In their eyes, the fact that we can feed ourselves is considered impressive."
It was as if the adults were constantly ready to spoon-feed them.
Callia deeply agreed with that.
If her brother and cousins did the same thing, the adults would not praise them. Instead, they would pick at flaws and think they had not done well enough.
However, if she did it, no matter how well or poorly, the adults would shower her with praise, as if she had accomplished some great feat.
They would never say she did badly or criticize her. Even when she made mistakes, they would gently comfort her, tell her it was okay, and that she could just pick it up slowly.
"If there's anything you don't understand at work, just ask. As long as you're sincere and genuinely asking for guidance, they will teach you."
Callia listened intently and replied earnestly, "Got it, Chloe. I will."
Even though she was only there temporarily, she would do her job well and earn the salary she was given.
Jane then added, "Chloe, you should tell people at the company to look out for Callia a little. You shouldn't allow the older employees to bully her."
"Aunt Jane, that's really not necessary. This is fine as it is. I don't need Chloe to protect me. I can handle my relationships with colleagues. Everyone is actually really nice. They haven't treated me badly just because I'm a newcomer."
Callia was pretty, sweet-tongued, and although she was not a full-time employee at FC & Co., she was not inexperienced either. She had studied the industries in which FC & Co. was involved quite deeply.
Any task given to her, she could complete quickly and well. Even her colleagues often said she did not seem like an intern at all and that she behaved like someone with real work experience.
She got along very well with everyone, and people were willing to help her.
Chloe then said, "Callia doesn't need me to back her up. If she did, she wouldn't have come all the way here to work at our company. I understand exactly what kind of life she wants better than anyone."
She and Callia were both treasured daughters of their families. Before Risa was born, Chloe's position in the Johnson family was the same as Callia's in the York family. However, even after Risa was born, with two young ladies in the Johnson family, Chloe's standing in the family's hearts remained unchanged.
Being cherished by everyone was a blessing, but sometimes it was too much of a blessing, so much so that even wanting to do something on her own would be stopped, just in case she got hurt or failed.
In the end, only their parents treated them more normally.
Jane laughed. "Yes, yes. You know Callia best."
Callia laughed as well. "Chloe understands me the most. She's the best."
Iris chimed in, "Every time I see Chloe and Callia, I wish I were twenty years
younger and could have another daughter."
When she gave birth to Devon, it frightened Yves so badly that he swore they would only have one child and no second pregnancy.
