Noelle asked, "What's Mommy Jane and Lilian's ETA?"
She saw herself as nothing more than Laurence's servant and bodyguard. Yet, Jane was a mother to her. She had suffered a great deal during her childhood, after which her late mentor took her in, gave her the best possible care, and provided her with the best education.
From that moment on, her life was filled with kindness. Jane welcomed Noelle as if she were her own daughter. The first time they met, Jane told Noelle to follow Laurence's lead and call her Mom.
It did not take long for Noelle to get used to calling Jane Mom.
The Johnsons, apart from Laurence, meant the world to Noelle.
"She hasn't given me a time, but she said it would be in the next couple of days. Knowing them, I think they'd arrive tomorrow afternoon."
After much thought, Noelle realized that Laurence had a point.
Both Jane and Lilian were go-getters. They were the type to get into the action without hesitation.
“I'll get the house in the medicine field ready."
“Alright. Buy whatever we're short on. You know Mommy Jane and Lilian's preferences."
Laurence took his phone out and wired Noelle some funds.
Noelle said, "I have money, sir."
She ran the household for Laurence, and Laurence would deposit a huge amount of money into the household account every month to cover the estate's maintenance, staff salaries, and daily expenses.
Noelle was Laurence's bodyguard and trusted housekeeper.
"Your money belongs to you. Mommy Jane and Lilian are coming, so it's only right that I pay for everything. I can't use your salary."
"There's a substantial balance in the household account because your monthly transfers consistently exceed our spending."
Laurence looked at her. "If there is excess, why don't you buy some skincare products, jewelry, or those pretty dresses that girls like? Noelle, I haven't seen you in a dress before."
Noelle uttered sternly, "Sir, I won't ever dip into the household funds. I can spend my own money on things I want to buy.
"I can't get used to dresses anyway. They are not practical."
She was the type to walk with purpose, and a dress would only restrict her stride.
Besides, she would be exposing herself during a fight.
Laurence was lost for words for a moment before uttering, "You are free to utilize the money in the household account as you wish. Buy whatever you like. It's not misappropriating funds."
"Sir, I'm your housekeeper and bodyguard.
"The money is supposed to be spent on running the estate. It's not my personal account. You pay me more than enough. The late mentor left me an inheritance, and I've grown quite a portfolio just investing alongside you, so I've accumulated plenty.
"I don't need a handout from the household fund."
Laurence said, “Can you put on a gown when attending a gala with me? If possible, you should pair the dress with heels too."
He hoped for the love of his life to dress up.
She would outshine all the heiresses in Havenmill.
"Forget it. You can't get used to it anyway. Your personality doesn't suit those gowns. All that matters is that you feel comfortable in your own skin."
Laurence did not even wait for Noelle to say no.
He loved Noelle with all his heart, so all he ever wanted for her was to be happy. He would not force his thoughts and requests onto her just to satisfy his ego.
Her happiness was his priority.
