"Uncle Zack is truly devoted to Aunt Seren. They've been married for decades, but they're as in love as if they were still in their first relationship-no, they're more in love than most people's first relationships."
Sonny replied, "Well, Mom and Dunc have a great relationship too, you know."
"Oh, absolutely. My parents are incredibly devoted to each other, and Dad spoils Mom more than anyone. That's why when I eventually marry, I want to find a man just like him."
Jeanne was well aware that her future husband would have to marry into her family rather than her marrying into his.
In fact, her parents had started scouting the local areas and neighboring cities for eligible young bachelors. They specifically looked for families with multiple sons, knowing that parents with an only one child would rarely agree to let their son marry into another family.
Of course, the candidates could not be slackers either; spoiled trust-fund brats were strictly out of the question.
While they did not expect her to find someone as successful as her father, the man had to be capable. At the same time, he could not be too powerful, because her parents worried she would not be able to keep him in check.
Most importantly, his moral character had to be flawless. So far, her parents had not found the right match, so Jeanne was keeping an eye out herself.
Jeanne had known her destiny since childhood. Unlike Sonny or her older cousins, who constantly complained about not wanting to marry or have kids too soon, she actually hoped to find the right partner soon. She wanted to get married, have a daughter, and fulfill her duty as the heir to the Fisher family legacy.
Once that was taken care of, she could finally focus entirely on running the family business.
"Don't worry, I'll keep an eye out for you. If I meet someone with a great character, solid talent, and open-minded parents, I'll introduce him to you."
Jeanne laughed. "Thanks, Sonny, but you should really focus on yourself first! You're already in your mid-thirties and still single. Mom and Dad are worried sick about your love life. Every single time Mom calls Aunt Seren, she begs her to set you up on blind dates."
Sonny found himself speechless. "Hey, look at how busy I am. Where am I supposed to find the time to date? Laurence just called me again today, begging me to fly over because his project plans changed."
"No matter how much the plans change, he's more than capable of handling it," Jeanne countered. "Besides, he has Noelle by his side, whereas you don't have anyone yet. You really need to look out for yourself first. Every time you go over, Laurence just uses it as an excuse to slack off and dump the work on you."
"He doesn't slack off. He just takes a bit of a breather. But you're right. He has Noelle, and I'm still single. I suppose I should start thinking about it, but I just haven't met the right person yet."
If he stayed single any longer, Chelsea would only get more relentless with her matchmaking schemes.
"What about those high-profile CEOs you do business with?" Jeanne asked as she munched on her snacks. "Any of them have daughters? The moguls you partner with are powerful people, so their daughters are bound to be incredible. You could just pick one!"
"You make it sound like I'm a king choosing a queen. Pick one? They have to have feelings for me first."
Sonny burst out laughing, and Everly's face suddenly flashed through his mind.
Lately, Old Mr. Flemming had been dropping some pretty heavy hints. Even Serenity, after meeting Everly, had expressed a strong desire to play cupid and set them up.
The problem was that neither he nor Everly felt that way about the other. Furthermore, the situation with the Flemming family was highly unusual. Sonny had assumed Everly would want a husband to marry into her family, just like Jeanne... No, Everly had explicitly stated that she wanted children, but absolutely no husband. She was already planning to go to a fertility clinic in a year or two to have two children via IVF. She had no intention of ever getting married.
Her worldview was incredibly modern and independent.
Honestly, Sonny found himself deeply respecting her for it.
"Oh, come on. You're amazing. You're handsome, incredibly cultured, and you practically radiate elegance. You're like a perfect gentleman out of a romance novel. If you're willing to give them a chance, there isn't a woman alive who would say no.”
In Jeanne's eyes, Sonny was an absolute heartthrob. She was convinced that almost every young woman who met him or worked with him ended up falling for him.
Sonny smiled and murmured, “There is at least one person who wouldn't be interested."
Everly was someone who had not given him a single thought.
