After hearing what Serenity had to say, Jeanne said, "What's there to fear from toxic relatives? As long as she's capable, she can crush them no matter how many there
are.
“Ultimately, it depends on whether Ms. Everly has the guts to do it. If she doesn't have the nerve to handle toxic relatives, how is she supposed to manage a multi- billion-dollar corporation? Does she have lots of issues in her family?"
Serenity explained, "The Flemming family is small. They've only had one child for generations. By the time it got to Everly's generation, her father had passed away before she was even born. She's an only child, with no older or younger siblings.
"The ones running the show are Everly and her grandfather. Rumor has it that her mother is incredibly soft-hearted and easily manipulated by her own brothers and sisters.
"I actually had someone look into the Flemming family. Everly definitely has the guts. Her maternal relatives are too afraid to cross her face-to-face. Even if they convince her mother to try something, Everly simply ignores her mother, leaving the woman powerless.
"Although her mother listens to her siblings, her loyalty still sways toward Everly. Besides, as long as her grandfather is alive, her maternal family wouldn't dare make a move. But down the line, once the old man passes away and Everly is left to hold up the fort on her own, it's hard to say.
“Unless she cuts ties with her mother's family, which would break her mother's heart. Let's just say things aren't easy for the girl. Of course, if Sonny ends up having feelings for Everly and steps in to help, it would be impossible for those greedy relatives to manipulate her or carve up the Flemmings' assets.
“It's not that Everly isn't strong enough. But no matter how strong a person is, you can't fight a war entirely on your own."
After a brief pause, Serenity added, "Old Mr. Flemming is actually very satisfied with Sonny as a person, but he did raise one particular concern."
Serenity had quietly done some digging afterward. She discovered that Old Mr. Flemming originally wanted to marry Everly into the York family, hoping Everly would spark something with Heath. However, Everly wasn't interested in dating younger men, and Heath was a bit younger than her.
"Old Mr. Flemming found a flaw in my brother? What could he possibly pick on? Is Sonny not successful and perfect enough?"
Jeanne was annoyed.
In her eyes, Sonny was the best brother in the world and the most outstanding man alive.
Serenity stayed quiet for a moment before speaking up. “Everly's grandfather is worried because Sonny's biological father committed infidelity. The divorce back then with your mother was incredibly messy. The old man is afraid that the cheating gene is too strong, and that Sonny might end up unfaithful in the future, too."
Jeanne found herself speechless.
It took a long moment before she snapped back, "What does the mistake of Sonny's biological father have to do with him? Even though Sonny is his biological son, Sonny grew up by my mother's side! He was also raised around you and Uncle Zack.
"Everyone around him has impeccable morals, and the men are loyal to their love and marriages. Sonny grew up witnessing that, so he would only learn the good traits, not the bad ones. You can't just say that because his father cheated, he inherited a 'cheating gene.'
"In fact, it's generous of us not to look down on his granddaughter, yet he has the nerve to look down on Sonny!"
Serenity gently soothed Jeanne's anger. “Jeanne, you're still young. If you look at things from Old Mr. Flemming's perspective, it's only natural for him to worry."
"Does Everly think that way, too?"
If Everly shared that same backward mindset, Jeanne was completely done with her.
"Everly actually shot her grandfather's argument right down. She asked him, by that logic, since her dad died young, should people be worried that she inherited his short-lived genes?"
Jeanne froze for a second, then burst into a laugh. "Well, Everly is certainly clear- headed."
"Everly is indeed a great girl, but unfortunately, she has no romantic interest in Sonny. The burden she carries is heavy. She will definitely have children eventually, because she's the Flemming family's only heir, and Flemming Group is massive.
"If she doesn't have kids, Flemming Group will have no successor, and it really will end up benefiting those toxic relatives. She mentioned undergoing IVF and having fraternal twins, getting both a boy and a girl in one go. That way, she gets the kids and skips the hassle of a husband entirely."
Jeanne was taken aback at first. "That's actually a pretty good idea. Aunt Seren, do you think I could do that in the future, too?"
Serenity was speechless.
