Two hours later, Jane and Lilian finally arrived at Laurence's residence in Havenmill. They first arrived at the main house.
After getting out of the car, Laurence immediately went to open the doors for the two elders. Noelle was even faster and more attentive, already moving to help Lilian out.
Lilian refused the assistance. “I may be old, but I'm not so old that I need help walking. Don't support me. When you do that, it makes me look older and more frail. My body may be aging, but my heart isn't. I still feel like an eighteen-year-old girl."
Noelle could not help laughing. "You will always be eighteen."
"One's heart can stay eighteen forever, but looks can't remain eighteen forever. Sigh, why do people have to grow old? Can't youth last forever?"
No matter how well she took care of herself, Lilian had still grown old. The most obvious sign was that her physical strength was no longer what it used to be.
There was no point in denying it.
Jane laughed. "Do you want to become some undying old witch? So what if you're old? Who doesn't grow old? Eternal youth is just something people talk about. No one can truly stay young forever.
"But you don't look old at all. Standing next to Noelle, you look like sisters."
Lilian replied proudly, "Of course. I still look very young.
"Noelle, go help your mother. I'm still young, so I don't need any help."
"I don't need help either. I don't think I'm old. I haven't even retired yet. If I were eighty years old, then I'd admit I was old."
Jane also refused assistance. After getting out of the car, she looked around and said, “It's quite similar to FC Manor, just a little small.”
"Laurence, listen to what your mother is saying. This enormous estate is still considered a bit small in her eyes. Of course, a wealthy lady accustomed to living in a manor would say something like that."
Laurence replied honestly, "This place isn't as large as FC Manor, but being able to build an estate of this size in Havenmill already demonstrates my capabilities. Many wealthy and powerful families don't even have a home this large.
"I designed it based on FC Manor and Medicine Valley. Since Mom says it
resembles FC Manor, I'd say I did a pretty good job.”
Laurence instructed someone to help carry the elders' luggage.
"Didn't we agree that Lilian and I would stay in the medicinal herb garden? There's
no need to move the luggage yet. We'll drive over there later. It'll be more convenient."
Jane stopped them.
Laurence exchanged a glance with Noelle before asking, "Are you two ladies really not staying here with me?"
Lilian scoffed. "What's so enjoyable about staying here with you? Seeing you single every day makes my blood boil. I'd rather stay in the medicinal herb garden with Jane and keep some distance. Otherwise, every time I see you, I'll feel like hitting you.
"You're already well into your thirties. If you'd gotten married in your mid-twenties, your child would already be in elementary school by now. Yet here you are, still single.
"I never understood why Doc disliked seeing me single back then. Now I understand completely. I feel the same way whenever I look at you. But I still want to preserve our relationship, so let's not live together. We'll stay separately."
This way, the two elders would have their own freedom and would not have to watch these two young people every day. They were obviously deeply in love, yet neither of them would say a word. Just watching them makes the two elders anxious.
Jane added, "Exactly. You're already in your thirties and still don't even have a girlfriend."
"Noelle, the same goes for you. Since I'm here this time, I'm going to urge both of you to find partners soon."
Noelle said, “Mommy Jane, I'm not getting married. I'll stay by Mr. Laurence's side for the rest of my life, taking care of him and protecting him. I promised Doc that I would remain loyal to Mr. Laurence forever and never leave him!"
Jane grumbled inwardly, 'I'm not telling you to marry someone else. I'm telling you to marry Laurence!'
Noelle only had eyes for Laurence, yet she simply refused to say it, even if it killed her.
"Would marrying someone mean you could no longer be loyal to Laurence?"
Noelle opened her mouth, but no words came out.
Loyalty was not determined by whether one married or not.
If she were truly loyal, she would remain loyal even after getting married.
