Heath continued working and only left for home a little past ten at night. Since his parents and sister were out of town, leaving him home alone, he decided to spend the night at his cousin's place instead. At least he would have someone to talk to.
Thus, Heath headed straight for Sonny's home.
Sonny had just gotten home and poured himself a glass of water. He was sitting on the sofa drinking it when he heard his phone ring and saw Heath calling. He picked up.
“Is something wrong? Why're you calling me so late?"
"You're back home already, right, Sonny? Is it okay if I come over and stay the night?"
Sonny did not understand. "Why? Did your parents kick you out? Don't you own a house of your own?"
Every York child would receive a villa and a luxury car as their coming-of-age gift. As the eldest grandson and the successor, he received the biggest villa out of all his cousins.
It was not far from the one Zachary usually lived in, which made it convenient for him to come home and mooch meals off them.
Heath later on bought himself another villa and an apartment so close to his office he could even walk there.
He bought the apartment purely to make it more convenient for him to go to work. If his parents and Callia were home, he went home every day because home would be filled with chatter and laughter. He could completely unwind after a long, tiring day at work.
"My parents went off to Laurence's to watch the show without a word. Callie's interning at Clo's company, so I'm really bored alone at home. That's why I was thinking of staying over."
Sonny understood now. His cousin felt abandoned by his parents and was feeling sad, so he wanted company and comfort.
He laughed, “I just got home. Come over, then. We haven't had a good chat in a while, either. You can sleep with me tonight and we can talk until the next morning.
"Oh, wait, we can't. I'm flying to Clearfield tomorrow for work first thing tomorrow morning. I have to sleep early tonight. You'd better sleep in the guest room, then.”
Remembering that he had to leat
on a business trip early the next
morning, Sonny changed his mind and asked his cousin to stay in the guest room.
"Are you going on a business trip too?”
"Yes, I'm going to Clearfield for probably about a week. I'll come back for a few days, then head off to Havenmi. Laurence has made his identity public and he's got too much to deal with, so I've gotto go help keep an eye on things at Longtail."
That was his company, too, after all.
When his partner was not free, he would have to fly back.
"Why? Are you going on a business trip too?” Sonny understood the implication and asked.
“I'm leaving in a couple of days. For people like us, business trips are nothing out of the ordinary, right?"
As CEOs, there was no way they could just sit in their office all day. There was a lot they could only deal with by going on business trips.
When Heath first joined York Corporation, he had to go on business trips more often than he did now, having started from the
bottom. Zachary said all heads of the family had to get their basics right. Once they had gained enough experience and built a solid track record, they could take over the company and become the CEO.
"That's true. Where are you now? Are you driving, or your driver?"
Sonny was worried that being on the call would distract Heath from driving.
"Driver."
Only then did Sonny relax a little.
He asked, "Why did Aunt Ser suddenly go to Havenmill? She didn't mention it to
me."
