Right then, Kaden called.
When Everly saw that her grandfather was calling, she said to Sonny, "My
grandfather's calling."
With a polite smile, Sonny gestured for her to pick up. He then turned to look outside the car window to appreciate Clearfield's scenery.
"Hi, Grandpa."
Kaden asked, "Everly, have you picked Mr. Brown up?"
"Yep, we're on the way back to the city now."
Kaden made a sound of acknowledgment. "Come straight to Clearfield Hotel, then. I've booked a private room so you guys can eat once you arrive. Should I order the food now or wait until you get here?
"I think it's better if you wait until we arrive."
Sonny was a guest, so it was best if they allowed Sonny to order what he liked.
After having interacted with Sonny, Everly knew that, although he did not seem to be a picky eater, he actually had pretty high standards for food. He had grown up eating fine food and everyone around him knew how to cook, after all.
“Alright, then I'll wait. Your mom just called to ask when you're free. Your uncle's found another great guy for you and wants you to spare some time in the next two days to meet him."
Kaden was deeply exasperated with Maddie for being so easily swayed by her family, but was still tolerant of her.
If not for her willingness to remain a widow for nearly thirty years, withstanding the pressure while pregnant to give birth to Ike's unborn child, his family's bloodline would truly have ended.
Though Everly was a granddaughter, she was still his lineage. As long as Everly lived, their bloodline would not be extinct. Once he was old and retired, he would not have to worry about Flemming Group falling into someone else's hands.
He raised Everly well enough to be able to take over management of Flemming Group without getting bogged down by family ties, and to have better judgment than Maddie.
If she could marry a capable man with integrity who would not covet the Flemming assets, he could finally rest in peace.
"Grandpa, I'm not free. Don't mind her. I already told her I'm not going on any dates."
Maddie had not called Everly directly because she knew her daughter's marriage had to have Kaden's stamp of approval. That was why every time she arranged a blind date for Everly, she would get Kaden's go ahead before telling her
daughter.

It was just that she never had any problems with Kaden. It was her daughter she could not get the approval of.
All these years, her family had introduced so many men to Everly but she refused to meet any of them or to play nice even if the men tried to proactively approach her.
Everly was now the bona fide head of Flemming Group. She was very busy, and outsiders could not meet her simply because they wanted to.
None of the so-called great guys her aunts and uncles introduced had the bite to back up their bark. Most of them were layabouts with rich parents whose start-ups, only made losses their elders would rather that they idle their lives away than work hard.
There was nothing they could do about it. Their hard work just caused too much damage.
Those so-called great guys did not have any standing in the business world either. They could not even get past the reception desk when they tried to meet Everly at her office.
Thus, it was useless for the men to take initiative, because Everly was so far out of their league that they could not even meet her.
"Even if I say something to your
mom, she won't get it, so just let her be. She can say all she wants and you don't have to listen. Though, Everly you really should think about settling down. You shouldn't fixate
doing IVF."
"Grandpa, my signal's getting weak. I'm hanging up, bye." Everly could not take it when Kaden harped on the fact that she was not young anymore and hurriedly hung
up.
Sonny could hear the whole conversation, but without Everly grumbling about it to
him, he would not comment.
That was her private matter.
Plus, if he were Everly, he would do the same too.
It was quiet in the car.
After a long moment, Everly spoke, but not to grumble about being nagged to settle
down pretty much every day. Instead, it was about their project.
Once the two started talking about work, they would forget even the passage of time.
The two were the same type of person-workaholics.
