"Ms. Flemming, if you don't give us the chance, how do you know we're not suitable for you? If you don't get married, how will you have children? Don't you need a successor? If you don't get married or have children, your family's bloodline will end
with you.
"You're the only child, so you probably need a house husband. I'm very suitable for that. I know how to cook and do chores. I'll be able to keep your household in perfect order.
"My cooking's really good, too. Everyone who tries my cooking says I can go toe-to- toe with a five-star chef.
"I have two brothers and I'm the middle child, so my parents won't object to my marrying into your family. In fact, my brothers wish I would. I'm highly educated and handsome to boot. Our kids won't be bad-looking at all.
"We'll definitely be able to have outstanding kids. If we nurture them well, they'll definitely be able to succeed you. We can have more than one to expand the Flemming family tree.
“The kids can take your family name. I won't ask for them to take mine. I don't care for that as long as they're my kids."
Nate desperately tried to pitch himself. "Ms. Flemming, please give me a chance. We can try dating. Plus, I'm a Clearfield local, and our houses aren't far from each other. No matter who marries into whose family, it'll be easy to keep in touch."
He glanced at Sonny, then said, "Don't you think it's better than getting an import? He might be handsome, but you don't truly know him, and you won't know any better even if you're tricked.
"Some men just look handsome. All that glitters isn't gold, you know."
Sonny cut in then. "Sir, are you talking about me?"
Nate was taken aback for a moment, not expecting Sonny to chime in. He met Sonny's dark gaze and a chill entered his heart. This man was exuding a particularly imposing aura and he definitely did not seem like he was merely a pretty face.
This handsome man might be the important guest Mrs. Flemming said Everly had to entertain at Clearfield Hotel this afternoon. He had to be from one of the companies Flemming Group worked with, so maybe he was the CEO of a big company.
"Well, sir, I didn't name anybody, but if you want to take it personally, that's your problem. It's got nothing to do with me. Some men really are just pretty faces who rely on women to support them and only know how to butter up their sugar mommies."
Sonny said in his low voice, "You looked at me when you said that, so you were definitely implying that
about me. I don't know how et
I've
offended you to make you insult toe like this. I'm handsome because I was born this way and my parents had good genes. I've always been handsome.
"Of course, it's easy to attract envy when you're too handsome,
especially from someone as ugly as you it's normal to be envious, but to imply that I'm just a pretty face just because you aren't as handsome as I am is a moral failing on your part.
"Ms. Flemming, you can settle your personal matters first. I'll head inside to wait for you."
Sonny's reprisal made Nate's face flush with splotches of red. He wanted to retort, but Sonny did not give him the chance. After saying that to Everly, Sonny immediately headed into the hotel.
Everly glared at Nate as she said coldly, "Mr. Tatum, I made myself very clear just now. If you continue to bother me, don't blame me for being merciless. Your family still wants to do business in Clearfield, correct?
"Don't assume I'll play nice just because my uncle introduced you to me. He can't even put on the airs of an elder before me. I don't even play nice with him, much less with you and your family.
"Mr. Brown is an important guest of Flemming Group, and you've just insulted him in front of me. I will settle this score with your father.
"Sarah, call Andy Tatum and ask him to come over immediately and take his rabid dog home. Tell him to make sure he doesn't get loose and bite people indiscriminately."
Everly normally would not scold a person so harshly, but Nate pulling Sonny into it had thoroughly pissed her off. She did not hold back as she called Nate a mad dog who was indiscriminately harassing people.
