Kaden scoffed. "Really? Who was the one who came home crying because she wanted a father, saying that everyone else had one and she didn't, so she wanted one too?
"And who was it who wrote in an essay that she'd never experienced what it was like to be loved by her father, had never seen her father in person, and wanted to know what it felt like to have a father's love and companionship?"
Everly was speechless.
That was when she was still young.
Fine. She admitted it. Deep down, she had always craved a father's love.
Now that she had grown stronger, that longing had faded considerably.
"Isn't Sonny good? If you and Sonny got together, your children would definitely be exceptional. You're both smart and capable, and Sonny is handsome. Just imagine how adorable and good-looking your children would be?"
“Grandpa, there are geniuses who have children who struggle academically. Who can guarantee a child's intelligence?"
Kaden fell silent.
"Can't you think a little more positively? Sonny's aunt, uncle, mother, and stepfather are all highly capable people, and all their children turned out incredibly brilliant.
"Sonny's parents are intelligent too, and look how accomplished he is."
Everly replied, "Maybe he and his sister inherited all the good genes. And who knows, the genes could weaken by the time their children come along and might not be nearly as smart. Grandpa, it's impossible to know. No one can guarantee these things.
"There are plenty of families where they're incredibly smart, yet the descendants struggle even with basic academics.
"I'm going for my run now."
Everly left before Kaden could lecture her again.
He and Maddie talked about the same thing so many times that she was getting tired of hearing it.
"He's such a good man, yet she won't even consider him. Just what kind of man is she looking for?" Kaden grumbled.
However, he would not give up. He would match Everly with Sonny if it was the last thing he did.
The moment he went back inside, he picked up his phone and called Sonny.
It took Sonny a while to answer.
He had not even woken up yet. Kaden's call had dragged him out of a pleasant dream.
"Old Mr. Flemming."
"Sonny, did I wake you? I thought you'd already be up."
Hearing the hoarseness in Sonny's voice, Kaden realized that he had probably woken the man up and felt a little embarrassed.
"It's fine. My alarm was about to go off anyway. Is something urgent for you to be calling so early?"
Surely, he would not be calling first thing in the morning unless it was something important.
Kaden felt even more awkward.
"It's nothing urgent. I just wanted to
thank you for helping me last night
and for bringing Everly home safely I invite your I to

breakfast. It must be inconven
for you to prepare something for yourself, so come over and eat with us. It'll save you some trouble."
Sonny declined without hesitation.
"Old Mr. Flemming, I'll be going into the office later today. I don't want to take up your time. You and Everly usually get to the office around eight, right? I'll be heading in at nine today.
"I'll just make something simple for myself, so there's no need to trouble you, but
thanks for the invitation. Last night was nothing. You really don't need to worry about
it."
"I see.” Kaden sounded disappointed. "Maybe next time then. Even if you think it's
nothing, you still helped me, so I owe you a favor.
"I don't like owing people and always feel the need to repay them. Once you're done with work, I'll have Everly be your tour guide for a day. She can show you around historical sites in Clearfield. It is a tourist ety after all There are plenty of ces worth
seeing."

Sonny smiled and said, “You're too kind, Old Mr. Flemming. We'll see how things go after I finish my work. If I manage to wrap things up ahead of schedule, I might stay in Clearfield for a day or two and give myself some time off.
"However, I doubt that'll happen. My workload is enough to fill the entire week."
After this week, he would return to Wiltspoon to deal with company affairs before flying to Havenmill to manage Longtail Group so Laurence could focus on the Longbottom family.
"Then stay a few extra days. Surely another two days won't make much difference. Last time Everly and I went to Wiltspoon, you treated us so warmy. Now that you're in
Clearfield, we'd feel terrible it we didn't host you properly."
Sonny replied, “I really can't say yet. It depends on how things go.”
He understood Kaden's intentions, but his schedule was packed to the brim. He
simply had no time to think about relationships for the time being.
