Keira stormed into the hospital room like a storm cloud, her eyes fixed on Jackson with a fire that could melt steel. She had heard every vile word he spat. If Matias hadn’t stopped him, the real Keera—Nara—would have been violated. This man was despicable beyond words, and if he weren’t already injured, Keira would have gladly added a few more broken bones to his tally.

“The Gill family doesn’t own Clance. Do you really think you can do anything you want?” Keira’s voice cut through the room like a blade.

Jackson sneered back, his arrogance dripping from every syllable. “I don’t know about other industries, but in the medical field, I’m sure of it! If the Gill family says the word, she’ll never find a job here!”

“She already has one,” Keira replied calmly, her lips curling into a faint smile.

Jackson froze for a moment, then burst into mocking laughter. “Who would dare take her in? The only medical team in Clance not controlled by my family is the Nora Research Institute. You’re not saying she got accepted by them, are you? Hahaha… Don’t be ridiculous!”

His lackeys joined in the laughter, a chorus of disbelief and cruelty. “Stop daydreaming! The Nora Research Institute never hires undergraduates, especially interns. They’ve never recruited interns in all these years!”

Keira simply dug at her ears, bored by their noise. She turned to Matias, who was still kneeling on the floor, his leg bandaged and his eyes red-rimmed with guilt. “Get up,” she commanded.

“It’s my fault… It’s because of me that Nara ended up like this…” Matias whispered, his fists clenched tight.

“It’s not your fault!” Keira grabbed him by the collar and hoisted him up. “Your leg was broken by him. If you’re bullied, do you just bear it? Nara is your sister! She should stand with you against these evil forces!”

But Matias shook his head, tears threatening to spill. “It shouldn’t be like this… Nara hasn’t done anything wrong, yet because of me, she can’t even find a job…”

Keira sighed, her voice softening. “I said she found a job!”

Matias looked at Nara, hope flickering in his eyes. “Is that true?”

Nara hesitated, then nodded, signing with her hands, “Brother, I received an interview notification from the Nora Research Institute.”

Matias was stunned. “What? The Nora Research Institute?”

Before he could say more, Jackson’s sneer cut through. “Nara, what lies are you telling now? If you got an interview from the Nora Research Institute, I’ll eat this stack of papers!”

His subordinates cackled. “Exactly! They never hire undergraduates!”

“You’re dreaming!”

“Stop bragging!”

Nara’s face flushed with anger, but she didn’t retort. Even she doubted the message—it had come so suddenly, like a miracle.

Keira just curled her lips. Of course, it was because of her reminder—Nara was mute, so a text was the only way.

But Matias frowned. “Nara, why would they send a text? Could it be a scam?”

“It’s not a scam,” Keira said firmly. “Try it tomorrow, and you’ll know. For now, come with us. Leave this place!”

Matias hesitated, still reluctant to abandon the room. Keira sighed. “Haven’t you realized? Jackson will never let you go. Some people have hearts made of stone.”

Jackson sneered from his bed. “If your manhood was destroyed, could you spare the culprit? I’ll never let you off. I’ll torture you both, little by little.”

Matias’s eyes burned with fury, but Nara grabbed his hand and signed, “Brother, let’s go. I don’t want to see his face.”

They walked out, Matias limping. Behind them, Jackson’s mocking voice echoed, “What a pair of disabled siblings! A cripple and a mute—pathetic!”

Matias’s steps faltered, but he didn’t look back.

Outside, Matias apologized again. Nara signed back, “Don’t say that. We are a family.” She then looked at her phone, unsure about the interview.

“If you want to know if it’s a scam, why not just go and see for yourself tomorrow?” Keira urged.

Matias nodded. “Right, let’s try. I’ll go with you.”

Seeing their determination, Keira relaxed. But as she turned, she heard a voice with a foreign accent in the distance. “I discovered that the same family owns several bridges in Crera!”

Her eyes widened. It was Scott Martin—the overseas real estate tycoon she’d met in Oceanion. But before she could think more, she caught a glimpse of another familiar figure: Doctor Matthew!

Her heart raced. Matthew—her personal doctor from Oceanion, who had always treated her with care and mystery. She quickened her steps, but when she reached the corner, he was gone.

Keira frowned, memories flooding back. Matthew had been her lifeline during her darkest days, and she had sensed secrets surrounding him. Now, why was he in Clance?

Lewis cleared his throat, pulling her back to reality. Keira turned to Matias and Nara. “Nara, the jade pendant you asked me to get back from Jackson—may I see it?”

Nara froze, then typed a message on her phone: “I lost it.”

Keira was startled. “You lost it?”

Nara nodded, avoiding her eyes.

Keira let it go, and after taking the siblings home, she left with Lewis.

But Matias wasn’t fooled. He confronted Nara. “That jade was left to you by the family you were looking for. I know it’s under your pillow. Why would you lie?”

Nara’s eyes welled up. She signed, “I found them, Matias. But they are all bad people! They took lives with impunity!”

Matias tried to soothe her, but Nara locked herself in her room, crying. She pulled the jade from under her pillow and threw it into the trash bin—then snatched it back. Something was wrong. The jade had been switched! Jackson must have taken her real one.

She threw the fake jade back in the bin and left the room, signing to Matias, “Let’s move to another city and start anew.”

Matias was shocked. “But your university…”

“I won’t attend anymore. With the Gill family here, do you think they’ll let me graduate? We need to leave this heartbreaking place.”

Matias agreed. “We’ll try the interview first. If it’s a sham, we’ll leave.”

Neither noticed the spy watching them. The man called Jackson. “Sir, Nara said she’ll go for the interview tomorrow. If she doesn’t get it, she’ll leave Clance and never return.”

Jackson sneered. “Ambush them on the way. Get rid of both of them for good!”

The next morning, Nara and Matias arrived at the Nora Research Institute. Standing outside the grand courtyard, they could barely breathe. Land in Clance was astronomically expensive, yet the institute sprawled here.

They approached the security booth nervously. Nara showed the text on her phone.

The guard frowned, measuring them with a skeptical gaze. Matias stammered, “Is there a problem? We’re sorry for the trouble…”

But from a distance, Jackson’s spy watched and reported, “They’re here, sir! They’re actually going in!”

Jackson laughed coldly. “That mute university student wants to enter Nora Research Institute? A fool’s dream! And after—we’ll strike!”
