# Chapter 779: The Poisoned Table and a Smile That Hid a Knife

Hello everyone, it's me again! How are you all doing? Today I will continue to walk with you and review Chapter 779 of *"My Accidental Husband is a Billionaire Reviews"* — a chapter that drips with tension, hidden schemes, and a dinner table that slowly turns into a battlefield.

The room had gone completely still. Every pair of eyes at the table landed on Selena, who sat with her hand clamped over her mouth, her face pale and queasy. Something was very wrong. Gavin, ever attentive, leaned closer, his voice soft with worry. "What's wrong?"

Selena shook her head, forcing herself to look calm. But inside, her mind was racing. She knew exactly what had been added to that soup. She knew the poison was there. And she also knew, with terrible clarity, that it should not have affected her at all—unless she had colon cancer. The thought clawed at her heart. But she quickly pushed it away. Maybe it just hadn't taken effect yet. Maybe Gavin would feel it soon.

"I'm fine," she said, forcing a smile. "You should have some more soup."

Gavin, trusting her completely, turned back to his meal and obediently continued drinking. Selena's stomach churned, the pain gnawing at her from within. The doctors had once told her that cancer patients who never learned the truth tended to live longer—months, even years. It was a psychological comfort, they said. But in the end, it was just a delaying of the inevitable. Still, she intended to use that borrowed time to finish what she had started.

Gavin, oblivious, absentmindedly reached for some vegetables slathered in peanut sauce. Selena set down her utensils, a careful smile blooming on her lips. She had a bigger move to make.

"I'm going to propose a toast to my aunt and uncle," she announced, rising from her chair.

She glided over to where Keira and Lewis sat, champagne glass in hand. Her voice was honey-sweet as she spoke. "Aunt Keira, Uncle Lewis, I know I've been a little out of line in the past. I just want to apologize and ask for your understanding. This toast is for you."

She took a delicate sip.

Keira exchanged a glance with Lewis. For Gavin's sake, she raised her glass and took a small sip in acknowledgment. But Selena wasn't done. She pressed further, her words carefully laced with venom hidden beneath innocence. "I know I've said some things that upset you earlier, Aunt Keira. That wasn't my intention. I just feel like the house is so empty these days. It got me thinking. I hope you don't take it the wrong way."

Keira raised an eyebrow. "And?"

Selena smiled innocently. "I was just hoping you could ask Jake to stop by sometime. I'd like to talk to him and clear the air. I know there's been some misunderstandings between us, and since Jake listens to you more than anyone else, maybe you could help me mend things."

On the surface, the words were harmless. But the weight beneath them was unmistakable. Everyone in the family knew the complicated history between Keira and Jake. Jake had deliberately stayed away to avoid awkwardness. So for Selena to suggest that Jake listened to Keira above everyone else—she was poking a sleeping tiger, and she knew it. She was implying that Keira and Jake shared something deeper than family politeness.

Keira's eyes narrowed. Her glass hit the table with a sharp thud. "I'm sorry, but I don't know Jake that well."

Selena feigned surprise. "How can that be? Weren't you both in the same college? He used to hang on your every word. If anyone could convince him, it would be you. You want our family to get along, don't you?"

Keira's inner fury simmered. *What is this woman trying to pull?* She forced a short laugh. "What are you talking about? I grew up in Clance. How could I have gone to college with Jake?"

Selena opened her mouth to push further, but Lewis had had enough. His patience snapped. "Selena, if you're not enjoying dinner, you can leave. No one here is stopping you."

Selena froze, caught off guard by his bluntness.

Across the table, Ryan and Ellie exchanged a glance. They were unaware of Keira's tangled past with Jake, but they could feel the air thickening, the sharp edges of every word. Ellie, who had never liked Selena, watched with quiet satisfaction. Selena was stirring the pot, and now Keira and Lewis were no longer playing nice.

But Gavin was in the dark—fully, blessedly unaware.

Selena's eyes reddened. She bowed her head, the picture of wounded innocence. "Uncle Lewis, I'm sorry. I didn't mean anything by it. I just thought... since Jake and I are family, all of us are family, we shouldn't be like this, with everyone ignoring me..." She dabbed at her tears. "I know I'm just the illegitimate child, but Dad's gone now, and Jake and I, we're still family, brother and sister by blood. I just said a few words, and if that bothered you, I won't say anything else..."

Lewis looked straight at her, irritation crawling up his spine. If not for the Cobb family's backing, he would have gotten rid of this woman long ago. She was buzzing around like a fly, and her act was wearing thinner by the second. He cut her off with cold finality. "Then just don't."

Selena's throat closed around her next words.

Then Gavin rose to his feet. He walked over to Selena, wrapping an arm around her, shielding her from the awkward stares. His voice was firm, protective. "Uncle Lewis, Aunt Keira, did Selena say something wrong? All she wants is for everyone to be on good terms. Sure, she's a child born out of wedlock, but that's not her fault. Didn't your ex-wife grow up under similar circumstances, Uncle Lewis? Are we really judging people by their origins in this day and age?"

The room went still. Keira and Lewis exchanged shocked glances. Before they could respond, Ryan stepped in, trying to cool the rising fire. "Gavin, that's enough. This isn't the time."

But Gavin wouldn't back down. His face hardened, and his voice carried an edge of righteous anger. "Selena, we don't need to stay here if no one's willing to treat you with respect. Let's go."

He grabbed her hand and marched toward the door, determination radiating from every step. Gavin may have been loyal to his family, but he wouldn't stand by and watch Selena be humiliated.

And as the door swung open, as they crossed into the hallway, the faintest smirk curled at the corner of Selena's lips. It was all going according to plan. Soon, Gavin would be out of the picture—the poison would see to that. And once he was gone, everything else would fall into place like dominoes.

But just then, a sharp, blinding pain stabbed through her abdomen. Beads of sweat burst across her forehead. Her smirk vanished, replaced by raw panic. Something was wrong. Something was terribly, terribly wrong.

**Reader's Impressions & Star Rating:**

This chapter was incredibly tense in the best way. Watching Selena play her manipulative game at the dinner table was infuriating yet fascinating—she knows exactly which wounds to poke, and the way she weaponizes her own "poor illegitimate girl" act is chilling. Gavin's blind loyalty is both heartbreaking and frustrating, especially knowing he's being led to his destruction. And that ending? The sudden pain hitting Selena right as she thinks she's won is a delicious twist. The anticipation is killing me. I cannot wait to see what unravels next.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rating: 4.8 / 5 Stars

**Next Chapter Prediction:**

With Selena suddenly struck down by that dark, unexpected pain, I predict the poison will backfire in a spectacular way. Gavin may finally start to see cracks in her story, or worse—Keira and Lewis may discover the truth about what Selena has been planning all along. And if Jake gets involved? Selena's scheme might just collapse right on top of her.
