The night air hung heavy around them as Keith's gaze locked onto Autumn's lips. There they were, mere inches away, soft and tempting in the dim light. His Adam's apple bobbed as he lingered on that sight, something dark and possessive flickering in his eyes.

Then, without warning, he closed the distance.

His breath brushed against her ear, warm and intoxicating, sending a shiver cascading down her spine. His voice was low, a dangerous murmur that made her heart stutter: *"Stay away from other men. If you want to be in a relationship, come to me."*

Before Autumn could even process the words — before she could demand what he meant or push him away — Keith released her. The space between them returned, and she felt the sudden coldness where his warmth had been. He walked toward the door, pausing just long enough to cast a glance over his shoulder.

"It's late. Get some rest. Don't forget, you need to be in court at nine sharp tomorrow."

And then he was gone, the door clicking shut behind him.

Autumn stood frozen in place. Slowly, instinctively, her fingers rose to touch her burning ear. His words still echoed in her mind, wrapping around her thoughts like a silent storm. *If you want to be in a relationship, come to me. Stay away from other men.*

What did that mean?

Did this man actually... like her?

The thought flashed through her mind with a dizzying brightness — but just as quickly, she dismissed it with a shake of her head. No. More likely, Keith simply didn't want to see her deceived by another man. After all, he had made it clear from the beginning: he was helping her only out of gratitude for her uncle's life-saving kindness.

That had to be it.

With that reasoning firmly in place, Autumn forced herself to shower and slip into bed. And remarkably, for the first time in a long while, she slept dreamlessly through the night.

---

Morning came with a pale sun rising over Northhaven. At eight o'clock sharp, Autumn arrived at the courthouse steps, her heels clicking against the pavement with quiet determination. She hadn't expected company — but there they were, waiting at the entrance like vultures circling prey.

Sienna stood with her chin lifted so high it was a wonder she could see where she was going. Beside her, Grace wore a smile that didn't reach her cold eyes. The two women radiated arrogance like a designer perfume.

Sienna spoke first, her voice dripping with mock sweetness. "Autumn, my brother hired the best lawyer from overseas just for me. You'd better give up now, or you'll be crying in a little while." She tilted her head, examining Autumn like something unpleasant stuck to her shoe. "Over such a trivial matter, you had to file an appeal and drag us back to court again. You really think you're something, don't you?"

Autumn kept her face still as stone.

Sienna continued, her smile sharpening. "My brother only made you lose your job, and you just won't let it go. Don't blame us if we stop being polite." She paused, letting the words sink in before delivering the final blow. "I heard the Sinclair heir doesn't care about you anymore. I bet Mr. Reed won't represent you either."

She clasped her hands together, feigning pity. "Autumn, without the Sinclair heir's protection, there's no way Mr. Reed will help you. What do you have to fight us with? Coming here today is nothing but asking for humiliation. Oh, and have you figured out how you plan to die?"

The venom in her words was unmistakable. To Sienna, this was a game — and she believed she had already won. Her brother had divorced Autumn, his company only growing stronger with each passing project, while Autumn's life after leaving him seemed to crumble piece by piece. Everyone believed she had latched onto Keith as her salvation, and now, at the critical moment, even he had abandoned her.

Showing up at court without a lawyer? Sienna must have thought Autumn was walking straight into her own ruin.

But Autumn said nothing. She merely glanced at Sienna, taking in the woman's ugly sneer, the barely concealed triumph in her eyes. This woman was as annoying as ever — but Autumn couldn't even be bothered to argue. Let her talk. Let her gloat. Words were cheap, and the truth would make itself known soon enough.

Seeing Autumn's silence, Grace stepped forward with a smirk curving her lips. "Autumn, I told you before — without my son, you're nothing. You just refused to believe me."

Her voice was a knife wrapped in silk. "Now, look at you. Standing here all alone. How humiliating is that?"

And in that moment, remembering the night before, Autumn almost smiled at the irony. She wasn't as alone as Grace believed.

---

But her mind drifted back — just for a moment — to the way things had gone the night before, after that whispered warning at her door. There had been a moment, earlier, when Keith had looked at her with that same possessive fire. When he had reached out, impatient, and said, *"Are you coming over yourself, or should I come to you?"*

She had resisted, of course. Told him it was late, almost midnight, that he should go back and rest.

But his eyes had held hers, voice tinged with that sharp impatience that made her nerves hum. And when she'd finally shuffled toward him, keeping a cautious distance, he'd simply stretched out his long arm and pulled her into his embrace.

Her heart had nearly stopped.

Instinctively, she'd tried to push away, her hands pressing against his solid chest — but her strength was nothing more than a kitten's scratch against his unyielding frame. The light touch had only seemed to make his heart itch, and he'd caught her restless hands in his large ones, trapping her in place.

The memory made her cheeks warm even now, standing at the courthouse steps.

Whatever Keith's reasons were — gratitude, protectiveness, or something deeper — one thing was certain: Sienna and Grace were in for a very long day.

**Reader's Impressions & Star Rating:**

Oh my, this chapter was a delicious mix of tension and anticipation! The scene with Keith whispering *"stay away from other men"* had my heart racing — he's so possessive and enigmatic, and poor Autumn is left completely confused about his intentions! I love how the author contrasts that intimate, heated moment with the cold arrogance of Sienna and Grace at the courthouse. You can just feel the storm brewing. Sienna's taunts are infuriating, but there's something deeply satisfying about knowing Autumn isn't as helpless as they believe. Keith's protective streak, even if he won't admit it, is everything. I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for that courtroom drama to unfold!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rating: 4.8 / 5 Stars

**Next Chapter Prediction:**

The courtroom scene is going to be absolute chaos! I predict Keith will make a grand appearance — possibly with Mr. Reed in tow or even serving as Autumn's lawyer himself — and completely dismantle Sienna's and Grace's confidence when they least expect it. Sienna's "best overseas lawyer" won't stand a chance against whoever Keith brings in. And afterward, with the verdict in Autumn's favor, Keith might finally confront those feelings he's been hiding, pushing Autumn to answer the question she's been avoiding: does she want to be with him? The tension between them is about to boil over!
