Damien reached across the table, brushing a strand of hair from her face, his thumb lingering on her cheek. His voice was calm, steady, and commanding all at once. “About that… I’ve already thought it through. We’ll head to Switzerland. They have the best hospitals, the highest quality equipment. The Ashcrofts have a facility there too. Jaime’s operation will be done under the safest conditions possible.”

Maya blinked, absorbing his words.

“We’ll take a small team with us-his doctors, Monroe, and your neighbor, Ms. Janice. It’s important we control the environment, make sure no one can interfere.” Damien’s gaze held hers, firm, unyielding. “That hospital is in one of our strongest territories. The Volkrovs won’t dare touch us there, and as far as they’re concerned, it’s off-limits. That gives us the advantage-and peace of mind-that nothing can jeopardize the operation.”

Maya’s brow furrowed, concern flickering across her face. “When… when would this happen? And my school… I’m about to graduate. I… I can’t just leave that—”

Before she could finish, Damien placed a finger gently against her lips. “Shh… Don’t worry. That’s all taken care of. Your remaining classes will be completed online, so you’ll stay on schedule, wherever you are. You’ll graduate on time, just like you planned.”

Maya blinked, relief washing over her as a small smile formed. “You really think of everything,

she murmured, her voice soft, touched with admiration.

Damien’s lips curved into a confident, tender smile. “I gave you my word, love. I’ll do everything to keep you safe… to keep Jaime safe. There’s nothing I won’t do-for you, and for him.”

Maya’s chest swelled at his words, a warmth spreading through her as she reached out, lightly brushing her fingers against his hand across the table. “I… I trust you, Damien,” she whispered, soft but certain.

Damien’s lips twitched into a small, confident grin. “I’ll never give you-or Jaime-any reason not to,” he murmured, his thumb brushing over hers, grounding her in the moment.

Maya leaned forward slightly, her fingers brushing over his across the table, squeezing gently as if anchoring herself to him. “Thank you, love,” she whispered, her voice soft but threaded with warmth and quiet devotion.

Damien’s gaze softened, but there was still that familiar, unshakable resolve burning in his eyes. He leaned just a fraction closer, the air between them charged yet tender. “Anything for you,” he murmured, his thumb brushing over hers. “Like you said… no matter what comes,

we’ll face it together.”

A small, serene smile curved Maya’s lips, her eyes glistening with affection and steadfast determination. “No matter what comes, we’ll face it together,” she echoed, her voice steady, carrying both promise and trust.

For a heartbeat, they simply stayed like that-hands intertwined across the table, hearts quietly tethered, the morning light casting a soft glow around them. In that simple, shared moment, the world outside didn’t exist, and all that mattered was the bond they’d built, unsha kable and intimate.

Damien’s lips twitched into a playful smirk. “What if we stay another night here, hmm?”

Maya laughed softly, shaking her head, but her fingers lingered on his hand, the touch grounding them in a rare moment of calm amid the chaos surrounding them.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea, love,” Maya said, tilting her head slightly. “Aren’t we supposed to head back tomorrow? And… I don’t think you’re paying James and Lee enough to handle the two ‘toddlers’-they might throw a tantrum if we don’t come back.”

Damien chuckled, eyes glinting with amusement. “Toddlers is right,” he murmured, squeezing her hand gently. Then, with a smooth motion, he pulled her toward him, settling her in his lap.

Out of reflex, Maya wrapped her arms around his neck, holding on. Damien’s arms circled her waist, supporting her securely, and his lips found hers in a trail of feather-light kisses-soft on her lips, then her cheeks-before he whispered against her ear, low and playful, “We’ll head back before sundown… but for now… how about we get to work?”
