Add in the fact that she felt insecure about her own physical shortcomings, she was willing to settle for a life with Reggie.
The two of them were starting to sound like a genuinely deranged couple.
Who knew if Reggie even realized someone was pulling this many strings for him behind the scenes.
"If you're so desperate for a child, are the Hamiltons completely incapable of having one?"
Claire couldn't comprehend the logic, but she was deeply stunned by it.
Nobody understood why Yolanda was so obsessed with this path.
"The Hamilton family can obviously have children, but I owe Reggie. If it weren't for me, he never would have ended up like this."
"Actually, he used to be a really great guy."
When they were children, Reggie had been a wonderfully sweet boy. When the other kids refused to play with Yolanda, he was the only one who acknowledged her. When the other kids mocked Yolanda for being chubby, Reggie was the one who threw punches for her.
Clinging to the memory of his kindness, Yolanda was willing to forgive him even for running away from their wedding.
"Alright then. Do you still want to proceed with treating your condition?"
"Traditional medicine can't solve it completely, but you can always opt for surgery."
"If you're worried about people finding out domestically, just fly overseas."
"It's a relatively simple procedure. You really don't need to worry about any complications, Yolanda."
Yolanda hesitated for a moment. "Actually, I think I'm perfectly fine the way I am now."
"You know I'm an athlete, but I've never had to deal with the struggles other female athletes face."
"They have to take pills to delay their periods or force themselves to train through unbearable cramps because they can't take time off."
"I'm completely different. I've never had to worry about a menstrual cycle my entire life."
"I didn't even need injections to delay it during my college entrance exams."
Yolanda actually sounded a little proud of the fact.
What was Claire supposed to say to that?
"Since it doesn't bother you and there are no other underlying issues, I can help manage your overall health."
"Especially since you're a boxer. You have a lot of accumulated old injuries."
"If you don't start treating them now, your body is going to be riddled with pain when you get older."
Claire deeply respected athletes like her.
Every medal she won was paid for with physical trauma.
"Thank you so much, Claire."
Yolanda beamed with delight. "I heard you were incredibly talented. Even doctor praised you, which is why wanted you to handle my physical therapy."
Claire didn't say much else, simply writing down a prescription for her.
"Take this to someone else to verify. If it looks good, get it filled. If not, just throw it away."
Yolanda was instantly dismissive of the doubt. "I'm sure it's perfect. Otherwise, you wouldn't be General Darwin's designated doctor."
Claire just shrugged. It made no difference to her.
Yolanda asked to add Claire's number to her phone.
She then transferred ten thousand dollars to Claire's account.
"I don't know what the standard rate is. Let me know if it's too little. If it's too much,
consider it a greeting gift."
Claire paused. "...I really don't need a greeting gift."
"Don't worry about it. I was supposed to get married,
remember? Consider it me sharing my good luck with you." Yolanda
was truly generous.
But Claire remembered the wedding hadn't actually happened. Hadn't the groom
quite literally run away?
As complicated as the drama was, Yolanda was technically still single.
"I think I'll pass on that specific brand of 'good luck.""
Yolanda burst out laughing. "Your expression is absolutely priceless."
"It's fine, don't worry. He and I will definitely work out in the end."
Claire didn't get it, but respected the hustle. "Honestly, you'd thrive
your own. You don't need to one
yourself to someone else's sinking ship."

No matter what reasons Reggie had for turning out this way.
It didn't change the absolute fact that he was currently a complete mess of a man.
