Cyrus frowned at Claire, who was already sitting in the passenger seat. "Then why
is Claire in your car? You two know each other?"
The look he gave her was far from friendly.
As far as Cyrus was concerned, Dane was meant for Latonia. He was practically his future brother-in-law.
So who the hell did this girl think she was, cutting in line?
Latonia was his family.
Achilles was their grandfather.
He usually kept a very low profile on campus, so no one knew about his
background.
"Claire is my fiancée. Why wouldn't she be in my car?"
Dane's expression was completely unapologetic.
Claire's eyes widened slightly. Dane had never been this blunt about it before.
Their families had agreed to keep the engagement under wraps for the time being.
Still, she didn't interrupt him.
If he was saying this to Cyrus now, he had to have a reason.
Cyrus froze in absolute shock.
He never imagined that his supposed future in-law already had a fiancée!
And it was his classmate, Claire!
How was this possible?
How was this acceptable?
If Dane was with Claire, where did that leave Latonia?
Though he and Latonia weren't immediate siblings, they were both only children.
Having grown up without other siblings, their bond was incredibly tight.
The way Cyrus looked at Claire shifted instantly. Whatever admiration he previously held vanished, replaced entirely by glaring suspicion.
It wasn't that Latonia absolutely had to have Dane, but he definitely despised Claire for swooping in and stealing him.
Wasn't Claire supposed to be obsessed with studying?
How did she end up involved with Dane?
"Dane, how come I've never heard you were engaged?"
"Is this an official thing, or just a fling?"
"Claire is my classmate. She's still in school. Isn't she a little too young for you?"
Cyrus's polite upbringing prevented him from saying anything nastier.
But it was painfully obvious he couldn't stomach the news.
Dane looked at Cyrus with cool

indifference. Qur families made it official a long time ago.
Cyrus grew even more indignant. et
"You've been

Dane's gaze darkened into something predatory. "What does Latonia have to do with me?"
"She likes you!" Cyrus blurted out.
"As you just said, she likes me. I don't feel the same."
"I have no obligation to return her feelings."
Cyrus was stunned by how ruthlessly cold Dane sounded.
He wanted to argue, but at that moment, the professor arrived.
"Professor Darwin."
Dane called out in greeting.
Professor Darwin had brought a student along.
Seeing Dane, he smiled and returned the greeting.
"Mr. Green, this is my student, Jade Foster."
Dane hadn't expected the older man to bring a plus-one.
With an extra person, his sports car wouldn't have enough seats.
They could technically squeeze, but he refused to make Claire uncomfortable.
And he couldn't exactly tell the professor to leave his student behind.
"Professor, please get in."
Dane gave Jade a brief, perfunctory nod.
His focus was solely on the professor anyway.
Professor Darwin, however, fully intended to play matchmaker.

She was exceptional, as brilliant and elegant as her reputation suggested.
And Dane was a young titan he highly respected.
In the professor's eyes, two such outstanding individuals were a match made in heaven.
He didn't push it too overtly; he just wanted to test the waters.
If the two hit it off, wonderful.
If not, he wouldn't force the issue.
