Why bother?
Ten minutes later, Claire's acupuncture took effect.
Harrison was not only awake but was also able to ignore the pain radiating through his body.
This was the best condition he could possibly be in.
He waved his hand, signaling everyone to stop wasting their efforts.
Claire stood to the side as Dr. Quentin Quincy bowed his head respectfully to the General before stepping out to call the family.
The Darwin family was still waiting in the hall.
Noah was the most anxious of them all, but the rest of the family actively crowded him out, making it impossible for him to get close.
He could only stare anxiously at Dr. Quincy.
"Dr. Quincy, how is he?" Lydia was the first to rush forward.
As the only daughter in the family, she firmly believed her father should favor her above the rest.
If he was about to finalize his will, she fully expected to receive the largest slice of the pie!
Arthur didn't panic in the slightest.
Harrison had been resuscitated so many times already, and he always pulled through, right?
By not fighting or rushing, he was simply showing his stoic devotion.
Unfortunately, Dr. Quincy was destined to disappoint him this time.
"We've done everything we can."
"General Darwin has decided to forgo further treatment. He wants to see you all one last time."
"If you have anything to say to him, go in now."
Dr. Quincy glanced at the massive crowd of Darwins and quickly corrected himself. "Just one representative per household."
"The patient is incredibly weak. He won't be able to speak much."
"How can we just send one? He loves my son the most..."
Lydia grabbed her son by the arm and shoved her way inside first.
If she didn't run in now, was she supposed to wait outside and complain about the doctors?
"Dad, if you leave us, what am I going to do!"
The moment Lydia barged in, she put on a theatrical display of wailing, causing Harrison's suppressed pain to violently resurface.
He weakly raised a hand toward her.
Claire couldn't hold back. "Lydia, please keep it down. He's very weak, and you're making too much noise!"
Lydia's wailing stopped abruptly.
No one had ever dared call her noisy; she used to be the darling princess of the Darwin family.
But now, without her father, she was nothing.
Realizing this harsh truth, her tears suddenly became a lot more genuine.
She looked at the old man on the bed who could slip away at any second. "Dad, I can't live without you!"
The others refused to be outdone. Despite the scolding, they all began to sob.
Claire felt a headache coming on from the sheer volume, let alone how the General felt.
Finally, unable to take it anymore, he snapped, "Get out!"
He used every ounce of his remaining strength to force the words out, shocking everyone into silence.
Leaving meant kissing the inheritance goodbye, and no one wanted that.
"I... left a will. It's in... the safe in the study."
Harrison's voice was terribly fragmented. He had already had a lawyer witness it.
He hoped Arthur would treat Noah well, praying the rift between
grandfather and grandson co net
be
heated, but it was painfully obvious no one would honor that wish.
He simply gave up trying to say more.
Both Claire and that girl from Tilda's family had said it before the younger generation would have to find their own way.
Why was he still worrying so much?
The will had been drawn up ages ago.
The savings were split into four equal shares: one for Noah, and one each for
Arthur, Silas, and the third brother.
The estate he currently lived in would be reclaimed by the organization, so it wasn't up for grabs.
Over the years, Arthur, Silas, and the
third brother had all acquired their
qwn properties so he didn't need to Worry about them.
He had bought a separate house exclusively for Noat and left all
beloved antiques and vintagebet
collections entirely to him.
Noah was walking away with the lion's share.
Which meant Arthur's bloodline was reaping the biggest benefits.
Silas and Lydia were absolutely furious.
But ironically, Arthur's wife was just as outraged!
Giving it to Noah meant her own kids and grandkids wouldn't see a dime of it!
