Ewan had lost count of how many times he had shut down his family's matchmaking attempts.

They constantly fabricated excuses to parade different women through his life, and it was driving him absolutely insane.

He knew they just wanted him to get married, have kids, and snap out of his depression.

But he really wanted to scream that a woman wasn't going to magically restore his will to live.

Right now, all he wanted to do was rot in peace!

He appreciated their intentions, but he had absolutely nothing to give in return.

More importantly, he refused to drag some innocent woman down with him.

Ewan took his sweet time rolling over to unlock the front door.

When it finally swung open and he got a clear look at Claire, a flicker of surprise crossed his face.

He had to admit, his family had pulled out all the stops this time—she was stunning.

But what did a pretty face matter?

Was he supposed to let a cripple ruin her entire life?

Ewan subconsciously rubbed his jaw, feeling the rough scruff. Showing up looking like a complete wreck, she probably wouldn't even give him a second glance anyway, right?

"Did my mother send you?"

Claire blinked, entirely confused. "No, your grandfather—"

Ewan cut her off before she could finish. "Great, now my grandfather is joining in on this nonsense too!"

"Just go home. I have zero intentions of getting married."

"Look at me. I'm stuck in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. What would even be the point of a marriage?"

"Are you absolutely sure you'll never stand again?" Claire hadn't expected his opening line to be a flat-out marital rejection.

"Don't lose hope so easily. There might still be a chance."

Ewan felt the conversation derailing, but he dug his heels in. "Even if a miracle happened, I'm still not getting married."

"Fine, then no marriage," Claire agreed without missing a beat.

That left Ewan completely baffled.

*If she's not here for a setup, what does she want?*

"Mr. Harding, let me formally introduce myself. I am Dr. Claire, the physician your grandfather hired for you."

*What?*

Ewan was certain he had misheard her.

"You're telling me you're a doctor sent by my grandfather?" He studied her face. She didn't look like lying, but he refused to buy it.

"The old man is getting creative, using this kind of excuse."

A girl this young, even if she actually had a medical degree, couldn't possibly fix his spine.

She was clearly just a blind date disguised in a lab coat.

"Is matchmaking literally the only thing on your mind?" Claire couldn't hold back her exasperation.

How did this guy manage to twist everything into a romantic conspiracy?

Was he truly that paranoid about blind dates?

"What's that supposed to mean?"

Ewan a sudden realization

If that were the case, his grandfather had crossed a massive line!

"I said, I'm not here for a date. I'm here for a medical consultation."

"If your grandfather didn't brief you on this, I'm not stepping foot inside."

"I'll come back when your family actually communicates."

Claire wasn't desperate for a patient.

If his family hadn't laid the groundwork, her being here was a total waste of time.

"Or maybe you actually prefer having women show up to court you?"

*Hell no.*

Ewan wanted absolutely nothing to do with any more setups.

Then, a fuzzy memory from last night clicked into place. His grandfather had called mentioning something about a doctor visiting" today.

The old man had insisted the doctor was young but brilliant, specializing in traditional medicine.

He had specifically ordered Ewan not to throw her out.

He was supposed to cooperate and strive for recovery.

Ewan had completely blown off the conversation at the time.

He hadn't expected someone to actually show up on his doorstep.

"Wait, I remember now. The old man said you practice traditional medicine?"

*Is she seriously not just a setup in disguise?*
