"Oh, by the way, I heard Latham went bankrupt. Claire, do you want me to ask my dad to give him a job at our company?"
Claire and Shirley had been completely silent.
They were just quietly listening to Rose show off her newfound wealth.
Who would have thought she would suddenly shove it right in Claire's face?
Seriously, was Rose out of her mind?
While Claire hadn't personally orchestrated Latham's bankruptcy, she had certainly
stood back and watched it happen without lifting a finger.
What on earth made Rose think Claire was trying to find Latham a job?
Did these girls genuinely think she was some bleeding-heart saint?
Seeing Claire stay silent, Rose felt a thrill of vindication.
She just knew Claire was drowning in humiliation.
Getting Latham a job at her family's company would be the ultimate insult to Claire.
Back in the day, whenever Rose visited the James estate, she used to be so intimidated by Latham that she barely dared to breathe.
Now it was finally her turn to hold the cards!
"Don't be embarrassed, Claire."
"I heard Latham has been hitting dead ends trying to find work. Honestly, I've been meaning to help you guys out, but then you went off to Cabinda..."
Before Rose could finish her little performance, Claire cut her off. "No need."
"I can't exactly get him an executive role, but I do need a driver to take me to and from campus. If he's willing..."
"Did you not hear me say there's no need?" Claire interrupted her again, her tone flat.
The smugness in Rose's eyes flickered. "Why not?"
"I genuinely want to help. Why won't you just accept my offer, Claire?"
"Even though you never really did anything for me in the past, he's down on his luck right now. I'm willing to be the bigger person."
Claire scoffed. "If you want to help Latham, go help him. What does that have to do with me?"
"I'm not embarrassed in the slightest."
"Do you understand?"
Rose looked at her in sheer disbelief. "How can you say that?"
"Even if you left the James family, he's still the man who raised you."
"The James family gave you the best education money could buy things even Cindy didn't get."
"How can you just abandon him now?"
"Isn't that completely heartless?"
Rose was intentionally trying to humiliate Claire and drive her away.
She absolutely refused to hand over any promotional freebies to her.
But she never expected a response like this.
Did Claire have zero shame?
Shame? How much did that pay?
When it wasn't useful, Claire discarded it without a second thought.
"You're exactly right. I am heartless," Claire agreed bluntly. "But you're so generous, Rose."
"Why don't you go find Latham yourself and ask him to be your personal driver?"
"Oh, by the way, how much are you paying?"
"The drivers for the James family
used to make three thousand dollars
a month. If you're Offering anything less than that, you really shouldn't embarrass yourself by asking him."
Rose's face instantly turned ashen.
Three thousand? Was she out of her mind?
Without
jumped in
to defend her. "Three
juusang a cue, Lucinda thousand? How can you even
demand that much?" Content.
"Most drivers barely make a thousand bucks!"
"A bankrupt guy like him should be grateful to have any income at all. He has no
right to be picky!"
"You don't seriously think he's still a CEO, do you?"
Lucinda truly was a loyal lapdog, barking right on command.
Shirley didn't hold back either, immediately stepping up for Claire. "Oh really? What kind of driver. makes less than a thousand and can actually guarantee their employer's safety?"
"Don't tell me you can't even afford three grand?"
"If word gets out, people are going to say your family isn't cut out for high society."
Claire watched Rose with a knowing, infuriating smirk.
