"Sure." Since it was just serving food, Dewitt didn't refuse.

"Do you want roasted potatoes?"

Dewitt held up her plate, looking at Yolanda.

Yolanda blushed deeply. "Yes, please. Thank you."

Her voice was as quiet as a mouse. In contrast, Dewitt came across as overly assertive.

He loaded her plate with a massive portion, piling it high with a heavy mix of roasted potatoes and thick cuts of brisket.

There was no way Yolanda could finish it all, so she cast a helpless, pleading look at her cousin.

Mable slid her own plate over, and Yolanda gratefully shared half the heavy meal with her.

"Dewitt, I heard you work abroad?" Prompted by a nudge from her cousin, Yolanda tried to strike up a conversation.

"Yeah."

Dewitt kept his head down, focused intensely on devouring his meal.

He had been working hard all morning and was legitimately starving.

Plus, the catering was absolutely phenomenal, and he had zero intention of missing out on a single dish.

Watching him eat, Yolanda didn't find him uncouth; instead, she felt that a man with such a hearty appetite exuded a strong sense of security.

Patti, however, kept shooting frantic eye signals at her son, silently begging him to act a bit more refined.

Unfortunately, Dewitt acted as if he were completely blind to her hints.

When he was out in the corporate world, wearing his gold-rimmed glasses, he certainly looked the part of a refined gentleman. But when Boss Dewitt smiled, people trembled.

He could play the polished executive, but his subordinates were terrified of that exact demeanor!

Coming back to his hometown, Dewitt was purposely showcasing his rougher, unpolished side.

He had worn the mask of a ruthless businessman for too long; he just wanted to be free and comfortable at home.

"So, what exactly do you do abroad?"

Yolanda mustered her courage to continue the conversation.

Patti had wanted to intervene and help her son, but remembering that he rarely interacted with women despite his age, she secretly kicked his shin under the table, silently demanding he stop being so cold.

Dewitt was forced to pause his aggressive eating. "I mine in the mountains."

Yolanda gasped.

She was stunned by the answer.

Hadn't she been told that Dewitt was a manager at some high-end jewelry and jade company abroad?

Why was he suddenly doing hard labor in the mountains?

Was The James Family just exaggerating his career to make him look like a better catch?

Patti was absolutely furious. She could see right through him—he was doing this on purpose.

He just wanted to ruin the blind date, didn't he?

"Don't listen to his nonsense. His

Dewitt let out a dry chuckle. "Whatever you say."

Eavesdropping from the next table, Claire knew right then and there that this blind date was a total bust.

Yolanda clearly wanted to get to know Dewitt better, but the man had zero interest.

Claire went back to enjoying her meal; the gossip wasn't nearly as satisfying as the food.

Since Jenny couldn't exert herself too much, she only joined in for one round of toasts before sitting down to enjoy the feast.

Seeing Jenny eating happily without any issues, Claire knew her spirits were high and the baby was perfectly fine.

After finishing her meal, Claire took Shirley and Dexter out to have some fun.

More accurately, the James siblings went out to play with the younger kids in the village.

Dane accompanied Claire for a walk to help digest their food.

They really needed the walk-they had eaten so much they were practically bursting.

Dane genuinely felt that today's wedding reception was the liveliest event he had ever attended.

It wasn't just the warmth of the

locals; the food here was incredibly comforting, vastly superior to the sterile cold dishes served

Winter called for hearty, hot meals. Everyone had focused purely on enjoying the

food instead of making idle chatter.

It was a stark contrast to the elite

galas he usually attended, where the primary goal was to network, secure investments, and pitch projects, completely ignoring the actual

dinner.

As aloof as Dane typically was, he didn't dislike this warm, chaotic atmosphere in

the slightest.
