"I used to go to school around here. Is it really that strange that I know the owner?"
Caleb noticed Waylon's eyes darting around shiftily and instantly knew the guy was brewing up some toxic gossip.
"Whatever nonsense is rotting in your brain right now, you'd better dump it out."
Caleb's tone carried a clear, undeniable warning.
Claire and Priscilla both looked at Waylon curiously.
Honestly, they were dying to know what was going through his head, too.
"I wasn't thinking anything bad! The receptionist is just really pretty. Since you know
them so well, Caleb, how old is she? Does she have a boyfriend?"
The moment Waylon asked, Caleb instinctively glanced over at Claire.
Wasn't this idiot just boasting about pursuing Claire days ago?
Why was he suddenly showing interest in the restaurant owner's daughter?
Claire blinked, thinking to herself: *Don't look at me. What does that have to do with me? I can't stand Waylon.*
"That's the owner's daughter. She's still in college, so don't even think about pulling any of your usual stunts!"
The owner's daughter was named Lana, and she did indeed look quite young.
Speak of the devil-Lana knocked and entered their private dining room right on
cue.
"Caleb."
"My mom just perfected her recipe for Plum Blossom Pastries, and my dad wanted me to bring you a plate to try."
Instantly, both Claire and Waylon stared directly at Caleb.
There was no denying it now. Caleb might view her purely as the owner's daughter, but this girl definitely didn't see him as just a customer.
While not a drop-dead gorgeous supermodel, Lana possessed a sweet, girl-next- door charm. Her hair was braided to one side, secured with a small flower hair tie.
She was staring at Caleb with a hesitant, adoring look that made her feelings painfully obvious to everyone in the room.
Seeing Caleb walk in with two beautiful women had clearly triggered a sense of panic in her.
"Thanks, Lana." Caleb accepted the plate of pastries but didn't offer a single word of extended conversation.
Lana stood frozen in place, her toes curling awkwardly in her shoes.
She didn't know what to say. Having delivered the food, the socially acceptable move was to excuse herself.
After all, Caleb hadn't invited her to sit down and eat with them.
"If you need anything else, Caleb, just let me know. I'll leave you to your meal."
Failing to receive even a crumb of extra attention from him, a flash of deep disappointment crossed Lana's eyes.
Caleb merely gave a polite nod and went back to his food.
Left with no other option, Lana walked out.

Waylon started snickering. "I bow t

The overly sweet way she had cooed his name had made Caleb feel mildly
nauseous.
Claire and Priscilla exchanged amused glances as they continued eating. "If you aren't going to eat, Waylon, you can leave. Stop being obnoxious."
Caleb was losing his patience. The guy was giving him a headache.
Waylon just chuckled shamelessly and grabbed a piece of the Plum Blossom Pastries.
"Gotta admit, these are incredible. Sweet but not overpowering, perfectly soft. The aftertaste is amazing."
"If you dated her, Caleb, you could probably eat these for free every day, right?" "Honestly, I'm a little jealous."
The sarcastic edge in his voice proved he had momentarily forgotten exactly who he was messing with.
Caleb glared at him. "If you want to
marry into a restaurant family and work the register, you can eat them every day too. No need to be

Waylon offered a sheepish grin. "Yeah, but someone has to actually want to date me first."

"Don't you agree, Claire?"
Claire had been happily minding her own business, enjoying the food and the drama.
Caught off guard by the question, she looked up blankly. "I have no idea."
