Sloane couldn't understand what had gotten into her. Just because Meiko paid too much attention to Claire, she had treated Claire as an imaginary rival.
Convinced the girl was trying to steal her friends.
Now, knowing Meiko was tangled up in unspeakable government affairs, she deeply regretted getting close to her.
Suddenly, Meiko didn't seem so important after all.
As she wandered absentmindedly, she walked right past her father without even a glance. Lawrence couldn't let it go and called out her name.
Sloane turned around. Though she had been upset by his previous warnings, it was her dad.
She couldn't exactly give him an attitude now.
"Dad," she said, walking over to him.
Lawrence waved off his colleagues, saying he was going to take a walk with his daughter.
Once they were alone, he matched her pace.
He strolled alongside her.
"What's going on with you? You look completely out of it."
Remembering his warning to stay away from Claire, Sloane averted her gaze. "Nothing. Just thinking."
Lawrence frowned. "Thinking about what? You're completely distracted."
"Sloane, if you're running into difficulties, you can tell me."
"I told you not to bother Claire, but if someone is bullying you..."
Sloane quickly interrupted him. "Dad, you're overthinking it. No one is bullying me."
"Then what is it?"
Under his relentless questioning, Sloane finally cracked.
"Dad, you know the exchange student from last semester, Meiko Fujii?"
Lawrence's expression darkened. As the Vice President Sterling, he knew things the students didn't.
"Why are you asking about her?"
"Didn't I warn you not to look into anything regarding Meiko?"
"Are you not listening?"
It was the first time Sloane had seen her father this stern and
even more so than whe
her about Claire.
"Dad, I didn't do anything! I just heard she went back to Sundara..."
"Stop asking around. You're old enough to know what you should and shouldn't do," Lawrence interrupted.
"Even though our relationship with
Sundara is currently stable every
Solenian must remember our
Ssonal history."

"When you said you just wanted to be her friend, I didn't stop you."
"But now, she is no longer your friend!"
Despite Lawrence's stern warning, it was too late.
The very next day, officers arrived on campus to take Sloane in for questioning.
She was completely bewildered.
She had just been warned and had promised to drop it.
She hadn't planned on ever mentioning Meiko again.
Why were the cops coming for her now?
Weren't they busy?
Why did they need her to cooperate? She and Meiko were friendly, sure, but their conversations were strictly superficiat. They weren't exactly real friends.
Actually, no, they weren't besties at all!
Fortunately, the officers were discreet, having her counselor call her out of class.
At least her classmates didn't know she was being taken away by the police.
Once Lawrence heard the news, he hurried after them.
