"I think they both look amazing. When someone is as handsome as you, wearing a
potato sack is considered high fashion."
Claire meant every word despite not being the best at compliments.
Dane stayed silent, but the distinct upward curve of his lips proved he was
thoroughly enjoying the praise.
"But isn't it a bit too short for this weather? Aren't you freezing?"
Claire asked skeptically.
While he looked gorgeous, the cut seemed much more appropriate for the summer heat.
Dane's mouth twitched. It was freezing.
But he hadn't used his usual stylist, and God only knew what the new guy had been thinking.
A man of his stature normally had a dedicated barber on call.
Unfortunately, his regular guy was studying abroad, so he had to find a replacement. He had been willing to wait, but the stylist had fallen in love and extended his stay.
Dane's experiment with a new stylist hadn't been a disaster, but it certainly wasn't a triumph.
"It's fine." He couldn't exactly admit he was cold. Thankfully, he spent most of his day indoors, and the climate control handled the rest.
"It'll grow back quickly," he added.
Claire nodded in agreement.
The car's heater was running, keeping the temperature perfectly comfortable, so he wouldn't feel a thing.
He wouldn't let himself freeze; she was worrying over nothing.
When they arrived at her apartment complex, Dane drove straight into the garage and insisted on escorting her up.
"You can head back. I'll be fine on my own."
It was just an elevator ride; what could possibly happen?
Dane wasn't taking any chances. "The incident in Apex didn't blow up publicly, but
the Sundara operatives definitely know what happened."
"They failed to kidnap you once; they won't just let it go."
"We cannot drop our guard."
Faced with his firm logic, Claire couldn't refuse.
When they stepped into the elevator, there was already one person inside, and another joined them from the ground floor.
Dane's gaze swept over the two strangers, his eyes sharpening instantly.
Though Claire's floor wasn't near the
top, it was high enough. One of the
strangers got off a floor before

At a glance, nothing seemed out of place.
Yet, Dane subtly pulled out his phone and fired off a text.
He had placed bodyguards in the very same building.
He dispatched them to investigate.
Although nothing happened, Dane followed Claire inside her apartment just to be safe.
"Have you ever seen those two people in the elevator before?"
Claire shook her head. "Never."
She didn't live in the apartment full-time, so running into strangers was entirely normal.
Besides, given her striking looks, people staring was practically a daily occurrence. No one had ever crossed the line.
So she rarely paid it any mind.
But today, neither of those two strangers had cast a single glance her way. That was the anomaly.
She was stunning, and Dane was towering, imposing figure. In a
confined space, they shoul
been the center of attention.
Why did the two strangers avoid looking at them entirely?
Were they blind?
Obviously not.
It meant they had already studied them and were actively trying to avoid drawing suspicion.
"Were they a threat?" Claire asked him.
Dane's expression was grim.
If he hadn't escorted her tonight, there was no telling what those two might have attempted.
"Don't worry, I've got my people on it."
"My security team reported seeing
suspicious individuals around your campus as well. While we can't
confirm they're targeting you we have to assume the worst.
