A lump formed in Lance's throat. "Dad... I'm sorry. I can't help you."
Latham used to look so energetic, but now his temples were lined with gray hair.
The past few days had been pure agony.
He had truly lost his former commanding presence.
His brow was clouded with sheer exhaustion.
"I'm the one who's sorry," Latham sighed. "If I hadn't gotten involved with that woman, Fallon, none of this would have happened."
"Even your car accident was originally meant for me."
Lance had no idea the crash was intentional. Hearing Latham's words left him completely stunned.
"Dad, are you saying...?" The crash wasn't an accident?
"Yes. That lunatic Fallon somehow bribed the mechanic who serviced the car to tamper with it."
Latham's tone was dripping with disgust for the woman.
Lance frowned. "So what are you going to do?"
If Latham chose to do nothing, he would be completely disappointed in his father.
It was bad enough that he had mistresses, but now he had brought the trouble straight to their doorstep.
If his father hadn't betrayed them first, his mother never would have cheated.
A harmonious family couldn't be maintained by just one person.
Those who made mistakes needed to bear the consequences.
"I've already called the police. Fallon has been arrested."
Latham explained, sensing his son's dissatisfaction.
Lance sighed in relief, but thinking about the sheer terror of the crash and the fact
that he almost lost his legs, he still felt a surge of resentment.
His body still hadn't recovered, and needing a caregiver for everything was unbearable for someone as proud as Lance.
He didn't say anything to Latham's face.
Now wasn't the time for that.
"What else did she do?" It couldn't just be this one thing, otherwise, his father wouldn't be this furious.
"Leaked company secrets..." Latham knew what Fallon did was utterly unforgivable.
It was hard to admit because it was entirely his fault for letting a viper into his inner circle.
He was reaping what he had sown.
Now that the karma had struck his entire family, he felt too ashamed to even face his son.
Lance's expression darkened.
That meant the company's crisis was an entirely avoidable disaster.
If his father hadn't let himself get played some woman, the
Westside project never woudel
had any issues.
Swe
Latham knew he couldn't face his son, so he didn't stick around much longer.
"The company needs me. I'm leaving."
"Dad, if the company really can't hold on, just file for bankruptcy."
Lance stopped Latham just as he reached the door.
"If we file for
longer be bankruptcy, you will not
longer be the heir of The James Family You'll lose every hing Gontent
Latham looked at his son. "Do you realize what you're saying?"
Of course Lance knew. "But what's the point of struggling to hold on right now?"
Latham furrowed his brow. "I'll think about it."
He wanted to make one final push, hoping someone would step in to take over the Westside project.
Seeing his firm stance, Lance didn't push any further.
He knew he couldn't talk his father out of it.
"Has The Byron Family found anyone either?" Lance asked, shifting the topic.
After his accident, The Byron Family had practically vanished.
Frederic had only called once to check in.
York had visited once, but hadn't shown up since.
Lance understood that the Byrons were also trying to save their own skins and were swamped.
But he had heard that The Byron Family was already looking for a way out.
For example, it seemed they were looking for wealthy heiresses from solid families who doted on their daughters
If York could marry a rich heiress like that, it would probably bail The Byron Family
out of this mess.
