When the police conducted an investigation, they certainly wouldn't be as gentle as a set's internal review.

After all, this involved a highly influential actress who was currently fighting for her life in surgery; it could very well escalate into an attempted murder case.

"Stop crying! Pull yourself together!" Karla scolded the assistant with a deep frown.

Trixie immediately clamped her mouth shut, a clear testament to Karla's absolute authority.

Claire went over to check in with the staff and ask for an update.

They didn't know the exact status since the surgery was ongoing, but Dr. Duncan was leading the team, and he was exceptionally skilled.

"Karla, you don't need to panic just yet. The hospital is doing everything they can."

"The lead surgeon is Dr. Duncan, the one we had dinner with before. He's incredibly responsible and a brilliant doctor, so she should be in good hands."

Karla nodded. "Thank you for looking out for us, Claire."

Claire flashed a warm smile. "It's nothing. I'm just glad I could be here for you."

She then turned to Dane. "Why don't you head back to the hotel and get some sleep? I'll stay here and keep her company."

Dane wasn't about to do that; how could he possibly sleep peacefully knowing he'd left them alone in a chaotic hospital?

"I'm not leaving. I'll stay right here with you guys."

Karla was secretly quite pleased by his protective stance.

She obviously didn't need a babysitter, but the fact that Dane wanted to stay by Claire's side meant the kid had some decent sense in his head.

At the very least, he didn't ignore Claire's needs and actively considered her safety.

Karla looked at them both. "You two should just go home and rest. I can handle things here, and Trixie is with me."

Claire hesitated. She had only suggested Dane leave; she didn't want to abandon her aunt either.

She glanced over at Dane.

Dane, easily reading her expression, assured her that staying was no problem at all.

If they got too tired, they shouldn't force themselves to stay awake and could just go sleep in the car.

Claire and Dane both nodded agreeably.

But neither of them had any real intention of retreating to the car.

They settled onto the hard bench side by side.

It didn't take long before Claire's head drooped, coming to rest heavily against

Dane's shoulder as she fell asleep.

Midway through the wait, a rogue paparazzi disguised as a food

delivery driver actually made it up to

photos before trying to camp outside the surgical ward doors.

When Karla caught him lurking, he brazenly sprinted over and shoved his camera right in her face.

"Karla, how is Sienna holding up? She's been in surgery for hours. Does that mean the prognosis is grim?"

"Have you found out who sabotaged her?"

"Rumor has it the police are involved, which means this wasn't an accident was it a targeted hit?"

Seeing the paparazzi practically vibrating with morbid excitement, Karla aggressively threw cold water on his parade.

"I probably got here later than you did. How would I know things you haven't even figured out yet?"

"As for whether it was an accident or murder, you should go ask the cops, because I certainly don't have the answers."

"Or if you're feeling so passionately investigative, why don't you go solve the case yourself?"

Seeing her utter refusal to cooperate, the reporter wasn't the least bit deterred. "Don't be mad, Karla! I'm just doing my job."

"Sienna's fans are desperate for updates."

He left out the unspoken part: *Instead of letting you keep them in the dark.*

He spoke with such righteous indignation, completely oblivious to his own shamelessness.
