Initially, Owen had just been disappointed in Xavier's stubbornness, but after years of obnoxious behavior, he was genuinely sick of his former friend.
He didn't want their toxic rivalry dragging Claire into the crossfire.

"I've told you a million times, I have zero feelings for Jocelyn. Are you deaf?"
Xavier obviously didn't buy it. "You dated her while claiming you didn't like her. You think I'm that stupid?"
In Xavier's mind, he had been brutally betrayed by his best friend.
