Chapter 117
-ROMAN-
I could not believe what she was fucking wearing.
It should have been a crime. Banned from my games.

I could not focus properly. It was surprising I was even playing well. I could not stop looking her way, and I was worried Ethan would catch on.
Fuck.
What the hell was wrong with me?
Focus.
She’s your best friend’s little sister. Snap out of it.
Suddenly I cared about how well I played. I wanted to impress her. I still could not get over the skirt-how short it was, why anyone had let her leave the house like that. Crop top. Bare stomach.
Blair was sitting next to her looking far too pleased with herself, like this was some private joke I was not allowed in on.
I hit a jumper I barely saw leave my hand. The building roared in response. I ran back on defense.
Ethan waved again. I nodded this time so I would not look insane. Olivia tugged at the hem of that skirt. I wanted to look away. I did not.
Every time I blinked I saw it again. How the fabric rode up when she shifted. The strip of skin above the waistband. How she kept pulling it down like she knew exactly what she was doing and still refused to stop. My pulse was already racing from the game. She made it worse.
A guy two sections over stared at her legs long enough that I almost missed a rotation. I locked in after that because if I fouled out thinking about Olivia Monroe’s skirt, I would never forgive myself.
Second half I forced the game into something I could control. Pick and roll. Get to the rim. Do not look at the girl in the second row.
I looked anyway.
She leaned forward when I drove. Cheered when I finished. Bit her lip when I got knocked to the floor and got back up. I felt it in my chest like a bruise I kept pressing.
I wanted her watching. I hated that I wanted it.
Late clock. Two-point game. I asked for the ball because I wanted the shot and because I wanted her watching it.

I finally made it.
Port City Titans by three.
The arena responded with applause and shouts.
I should have gone straight to the tunnel.
I walked toward Ethan instead.
He clapped my shoulder, grinning. “That’s how you do it. I told them you were going to close.”
“We needed it.”
I was talking to him. I was looking at her.

Closer now, the outfit was worse. Better. Worse. A jacket around her waist would have fixed half of what every man in this building was looking at.
I wanted to get mine and put it on her. I wanted to tell the guy lingering on the stairs to keep walking. I did not want to fight every man who glanced at her the wrong way, and I could already feel that instinct waking up-hot, stupid, and loud.
I could not do any of it with Ethan standing there. He would look at me like I had lost my mind. He would be right.
Olivia said something I did not catch. Blair laughed. Ethan started in about dinner.

cker room.”
ent before I did something stupid in front of her brother. Before I put my hands on her. Before I told her to cover up and then immediately took it back because I did not want her covered. I wanted her in that skirt and I wanted no one else looking.
The locker room was already loud when I entered.
Jalen Crowe had his shirt off and his mouth open, which was his default setting. “Look the talent master!”
Tyrell Nash tossed a towel at him. “He doesn’t look happy though. He looks like someone stole his dog. Or his girl.”
Mateo Ruiz, older, calmer, just raised an eyebrow from his stall. “Good shot. Why do you look upset? What happened out there?”
“Nothing happened.”
Jalen grinned like he had been waiting for that answer. “Nothing. Right. So the pretty girl in navy cheering loudly-family friend, or…?”

I stiffened.
They were talking about Olivia.

Tyrell leaned forward on the bench, still smiling. “Hard to miss her. That skirt? Man. I almost missed a box- out looking at the second row.”
“Don’t start,” I said.
Jalen ignored me. “She with anybody? Because if she’s not-”
“She’s Ethan Monroe’s sister,” I cut in, sharper than the room expected. “That is it.”
Tyrell lifted both hands. “We were only asking. She single or what?”
Jalen shrugged, unbothered. “Looked single from where I was standing. Looked like she came to be seen. I wouldn’t mind introducing myself after we shower.”
I stopped moving, glaring at them.
“No.”
The word came out flat.
Jalen blinked. “No she’s not single, or no I can’t talk to her?”
“No one talks to her. No one touches her.” I looked at him first, then Tyrell, then the rest of the room. “You don’t ask her out. You don’t slide into her DMs. You don’t ‘introduce yourself after the game. You see her in the hallway, you keep walking. Am I clear?”
The smiles faded into the careful look teammates got when they realized they had stepped on a line they shouldn’t have.
Jalen held up his hands. “Damn. Only asking.”
Tyrell sat back. “Alright. Heard.”
Mateo nodded once, quiet. “She’s off-limits. We get it.”
I sat down and started unwrapping my wrist so I would have something to do with my hands. The tape came off in strips.
I had just told my teammates that Olivia Monroe was untouchable. Like I had a claim. Like I had any right to decide who looked at her, who spoke to her, who thought about that skirt the same way I had been thinking
about it for two hours.
I did not have that right.
I still meant every word.
I had practically marked her in front of twelve grown men who now knew exactly where the line was.

I wanted to go back out there with a jacket.

I wanted to stand between her and every set of eyes in the building.
I wanted to ask her why she wore that outfit if she did not want me thinking about her the entire damn night.
I stayed on the bench instead, jaw tight, and let them talk about the last possession while I tried not to think about whether she was still in the seats, still wearing that, still waiting for a conversation I could not have in front of her brother.
I had just closed a game.
I felt like I had lost something anyway.
Probably the little control I had left.
