Chapter 179

The table was loud in the best way.

Roman. Ethan. Blair. Grayson. Nico. Ivy. They were all here.

It’s been a week since everything had blown up in our faces, and the wedding was in two days. Not Nico’s Mine and Roman’s.

The one with Nico had been called off and we were celebrating like people who had barely survived our own fathers.

Blair laughed into her glass. “All it took was Olivia getting pregnant for Roman and Ethan beating the shat out of him.”

Ethan smiled, guilty. “I still feel bad about it.”

Roman touched his jaw like the bruise was a souvenir. “I deserved it.”

Blair rolled her eyes. “At least you’re friends again.”

“Best friends,” Roman corrected, and Ethan did not argue, which was how I knew the house had decided to

heal.

I smiled. Happy did not cover it. Watching them like that, after the incident in our driveway, felt like the house had put itself back together wrong and then right.

Ivy sat close to Nico without quite touching him.

Nico pointed his fork at me. “I am just glad Olivia isn’t going to be

my

wife.”

“Rude.”

“You wanted to be my wife?” He asked in a teasing manner and then glanced at Ivy, then away, like he had not meant to ask that question in front of her. “No offense. You are a lot. I like my weekends without elbowing you in photos.”

Roman’s arm settled on the back of my chair. “You would have been lucky to have her. But you’re right. She’s mine.”

“Possessive,” Nico muttered. “I think you two make a beautiful couple. Cheers!”

“Thank you,” I said. “That is the nicest thing you have ever said to me.”

“Do not get used to it.”

We were still grinning when Luca appeared with Charlotte beside him.

Everyone at the table stiffened.

Nico groaned. “Oh, not again. Every time he shows up, something bad happens.”

“Well hello to you too,” Luca said. “Some friend you are.”

Roman’s voice dropped. “What is he doing here?”

“I invited him.” I kept the smile kind. “Luca and Charlotte are my friends now. Expect to see them around more often.”

Everyone looked at me in surprise.

Nico clutched his chest. “Stop trying to steal my friends.”

“If you were a good friend,” I said, “they wouldn’t get stolen.”

Roman stared at me like he could not believe it. I bumped his knee under the table. “Do not worry. You know my heart belongs fully to you.”

Luca hit Roman’s shoulder, careful of the fading bruise. “Yeah. I know she’s yours. Not to worry. I will deal with the heartbreak like a man.”

Charlotte slipped into a chair and immediately asked Blair how the baby was treating her, then told Ivy he bracelet was pretty, then stole a fry off Nico’s plate like she had been doing it for years.

She was a joy. Easy. Funny without trying. Brunette hair, sunglasses pushed up, the kind of pretty that did not need help at all.

Blair leaned toward me. “I like her. She is very likable. Good job in making her a friend.”

Charlotte heard it and winked. “I accept compliments and dessert.”

The table loosened. Even Roman’s jaw. Even Nico, who muttered that this was how scandals started and then passed her the ketchup.

Luca watched Charlotte laugh at something Ivy said and then looked away too fast, as if noticing her had

been an accident.

I noticed that. There was definitely a look.

I had become an expert all of a sudden at catching these things.

Roman and I left them talking and walked outside.

The dance floor was being set up for the wedding.

Lights. A speaker testing a few notes of our song. He took my hand like it was already the ceremony and pulled me in.

We practiced.

Slow. A little messy. His mouth near my temple.

“You’re the best thing that ever happened to me,” he said. “I cannot wait to marry you.”

I smiled against his shoulder. “I knew you would be my husband the second you saved me from those bullies.” I laughed. “I was right.”

He chuckled and bent to kiss my stomach, right there on the unfinished floor, gentle in a way that gave me butterflies.

“I can’t wait to meet our baby.”

“It has to be a girl,” I said. “Blair is having a girl. They need to be best friends.”

“A boy and a girl can be best friends as well.”

I shrugged. “Maybe. But have you seen what’s happening with Charlotte and Luca?”

He frowned. “What do you mean?”

“It’s obvious Charlotte likes Luca. He doesn’t even know it. But I feel he probably likes her too and doesn’t recognize his feelings just yet.”

Roman looked back toward the house, then at me.

“Really?”

“Yes. Wait and see. Those two will get married someday.”

He laughed, low and warm, and spun me once under the lights.

“Let’s bet on it.”

I took the bet.

“Sure. If I win, you get to spend the rest of your life with me.” I teased him.

He laughed and kissed me. I drowned in his arms. I’ve never been this happy before. I never wanted this feeling to change.

Roman would always be the love of my life.

I squeezed Roman’s fingers.

“I’m so going to win.” I said as he kissed my neck.

“Yeah?” He asked. “I want you to win. Always.”
