Chapter 20

~GRAYSON~

“What the fuck?”

The singing was loud enough to carry through the open terrace doors, off-key, followed by a string of curses that made me wince.

I set my glass down and walked to the window.

Blair was on the pool deck in the same red bikini, clearly drunk, pacing with a bottle in one hand and a couch pillow in the other.

Someone-her, apparently, had shoved a pair of sunglasses onto the pillow so it vaguely resembled a face. She was holding it out in front of her as if it could answer back.

“You heartless asshole,” she yelled at it. “Six years, Chase. Six years and you couldn’t even tell me to my face. I found out from a photo!”

I stood frozen, watching.

She jabbed the pillow with one finger. “I paid for everything. I believed in you. And you married her like I never existed. Then you danced with her to our song. Our song, you piece of shit. The one we said we’d play at our wedding. You are fucking heartless!”

Our song.

The her was Sophie. The coach’s daughter. The woman Chase had married without warning.

Did the asshole really choose their song for his wedding with another woman?

That was fucking cold.

Something tightened in my chest as the pieces got more clearly than they had in the car.

Whatever I had imagined about their breakup, this was uglier. She wasn’t performing for an audience. She was falling apart because the man she had spent six years loving had erased her so easily without a care in the world.

Blair staggered a step closer to the edge of the pool, still shouting.

“I hope she knows she’s standing on top of everything you threw away. I hope-”

Her foot slipped on the wet stone.

She went into the water with a sharp splash, bottle and pillow both hitting the pool after her.

“Shit.”

I was moving before the thought fully formed.

Down the stairs, across the deck, straight into the pool.

I reached her in two strokes, got an arm around her waist, and pulled her up against me as she came up coughing and shoving wet hair out of her face.

“Are you okay-”

She blinked at me through the water running down her face, eyes glassy from the alcohol, and then she leaned in and kissed me.

Shock took over me.

Her mouth was wet and open, tasting like alcohol and saltwater, and for a few seconds I was too stunned

to react.

Successfully unlocked!

Then my body answered on pure instinct. I kissed her back, one hand still locked around her waist to keep her upright in the water, the other sliding up her back. She made a small sound against my mouth and

The last of my restraint broke.

I backed her against the pool wall, feeling the water at our shoulders, and took the kiss deeper.

Her hands tangled in my wet hair. When she parted her legs slightly to steady herself, I pushed between them without thinking, my cock pressing against her through my clothes. She gasped into my mouth. The sound went straight through me.

“Grayson-”

It was my name she was gasping now. Not Chase’s. Which means she was aware that it was me she was kissing…not her asshole ex.

I didn’t let her finish. I kissed her again, rougher, and dropped my hand between us. My fingers slipped under the edge of her bikini bottoms and found her already wet. I groaned at the feel of her soft folds around my finger. She jerked against me when I dragged two fingers along her pussy, enjoying this a lot more than I should have.

“Fuck,” I muttered against her mouth.

She was soft and wet and responsive in a way that made thinking almost impossible.

I knew I had to stop this. Knew I shouldn’t keep going. Still, I pushed a finger inside her and felt her clench around it, her head falling back against the pool edge as a broken sound left her throat.

Fuck. I loved the song she made.

I added a second finger, working her in slow, deep strokes. Her hips moved with me, chasing the friction, water splashing around us with every shift.

She was so tight. So reactive. Every small cry she tried to hold back only made me want to drag more out of her.

I kissed down the wet base of her throat and kept fingering her, harder now.

“Grayson-ah-”

Her hands fisted in my hair and I couldn’t tell why I loved it so much. I could feel how close she was, how little it would take to push her over, and the knowledge nearly wrecked what was left of my control. That was what finally reminded me of what I was actually doing.

Lily.

Damn it.

How did I forget about her?

I pulled my hand back like I had been burned and put a small distance between us, breathing hard, cock aching.

Blair floated against the wall, lips swollen, eyes dark and unfocused, looking thoroughly ruined and thoroughly confused by the sudden loss of contact.

“Shit.” I dragged a wet hand through my hair. “Shit. You’re drunk.”

She blinked at me. “I’m fine.”

“You’re not fine.” My voice came out rougher than I wanted. “That shouldn’t have happened.”

I hated how much I meant it and how much I didn’t.

My body was still wound tight, still very aware of how she had felt around my fingers, how easily she had opened for me.

The smartest thing I had done all day was stop. It still felt like a loss..

I got an arm around her again, more carefully this time, and guided her toward the steps. She let me,

Water dripped off both of us onto the stone. The abandoned bottle floated near the edge. The sunglasses- wearing pillow drifted a few feet away like a ridiculous witness.

“How was the show, Pillow Chase?”I chuckled despite the frustration in my chest at the shit I’d just done.

I shouldn’t have mentioned its name because Blair turned to glare at it. She started singing and crying all over again.

I couldn’t stop staring. And before I knew it, I was smiling, thinking how cute she looked and sounded. I caught myself and immediately stopped.

What the fuck was wrong with me? She couldn’t sing to save her life. Yet why was I still here listening to her like it was some sort of free concert?

I grabbed a towel from the nearest lounger and wrapped it around her shoulders, keeping my hands as far away from her breasts as possible even though they still remembered exactly how she felt just now.

“Come on,” I said. “You need water and a bed. Not another argument with a pillow.”

Blair looked up at me, cheeks flushed, eyes still glassy, and for a second something unguarded passed across her face. Then she let out a weak, drunken little laugh.

“He used our song,” she muttered.

“I know.” I said as I picked her up into my arms. I leaned in and whispered, “he’s an asshole.”

I steered her toward the villa before either of us could turn the moment into something even harder to take back.

My pulse was still pounding. My body was still very much interested in finishing what it had started.

I scolded myself the entire way inside.

She was drunk.

She was hurting.

And I had no business putting my hands on her when both of those things were true.

I set her down in the room and quickly shut the door.

The fact that I already wanted to do it again was a problem I needed to get rid of.

What the fuck was I going to tell Lily? I ran a hand down my face. What was I doing?
