I was nervous.
I could not believe I had just told Luca I wanted sex.

At first, I was confined to my room, convincing myself that staying away from him was the healthiest choice to protect myself emotionally.
The same routine, day after day. But then I visualized how many times his mother had tried to push that other girl onto him, forcing her into his life against his wishes, and something inside me just snapped.

“W-what?” He swallowed. “What did you just say?”
I bit my lip. “I know this is sudden and coming out of nowhere. But I’ve been sexually frustrated lately and I don’t want to do it with a stranger. And since you have sex on a daily and it seems like nothing to you, I was thinking…why not do it with you? Someone that I know and trust.”
Luca looked at me like the room had shifted or split in half between the two of us.
His face was filled with shock. Plain shock.

Was that all he was going to keep repeating?
I kept going even though I felt like was dying throwing all of this out in the open like that.

He still would not look at me.

“Those girls aren’t you. You’re Charlotte. You are with me every second of every day. We go everywhere together. You roast me all the time. You throw water in my face. If we do this, it complicates things.”
“I’m offering you the same sex you have with every random woman you sleep with.”
“Except you are not random.”
He was still not giving me any eye contact while he outright rejected me.
“So this is your rejection?” I asked him.
“Char. Please. This is not a good idea. Our friendship isn’t something I want to gamble because you’re sexually frustrated.”
“You won’t even look at me.”
“If I look at you I will say the wrong thing.”
“The wrong thing being yes?”
“The wrong thing being anything including sex between the both of us.” He dragged a hand through his wet hair. “Go back to your room. Before my mother walks in and loses her mind.”

The hall was too long. My face was on fire. I passed a painting of a disappointed Vescari and told it, under my breath, that at least it had never been humiliated as I had been just now.
Rico appeared at the far end. “Why do you look so red?”
“Go to bed, Rico.”
I shut my door, sat on the mattress, and whispered to the ceiling that it could not possibly have gone
worse.
The ceiling, unhelpfully, agreed.
