Chapter 50
Chapter 50
~BLAIR
I walked into my parents house on cloud nine and hated how obvious it probably looked.

Grayson had dropped me off, already late for the flight he was supposed to have been on hours earlier. He claimed he switched it to another one but I wasn’t sure how truthful that was. Then he’d admitted to being jealous.
I blushed as I remembered his words..
He’d done everything to keep Chase away from me. He had rearranged his entire night for that. For me. The knowledge made me feel warm inside.
I couldn’t believe he had done it.
How did he even know that Chase would try to talk to me tonight? Did he check the guest list to confirm that he would be there?
I also couldn’t stop replaying it. Grayson Shaw, who had spent the beginning of this marriage promising distance and loyalty to someone else, showing up where he wasn’t scheduled to be because my ex wouldn’ t leave me alone.
It was possessive. He didn’t even try to hide his intentions. I needed to be careful. His actions was getting into my heart in a way I didn’t know how to block. He was supposed to be in love with Lily. So why did he keep acting like a husband who actually cared?
I needed a distraction before I started smiling at furniture.
I found it in the living room, where Olivia stood near the mirror in a dress too nice for a random evening at home, hair done, makeup done to perfection.
“Where are you going like that?” I asked.
Olivia didn’t turn all the way. “Nowhere in particular.”
I narrowed my eyes. “Nowhere in particular usually involves sweatpants.”
“Maybe I felt like making an effort.”
“For the couch?”
Before she could invent a better lie, the front door opened and Roman Vale walked in like he belonged in a model runway. He was our brother’s best friend. Officially off-limits. Still, that had never once stopped my sister from losing brain cells over him.
Of course.
Olivia always knew when he was coming. Random weekdays, short visits between travel. And every time she had advance notice, she somehow ended up dressed in the fanciest outfits. This was not new.
I looked at her and slowly wiggled my eyebrows.
The glare she shot me could have killed.
“Blair,” Roman said, already smiling as he crossed the room. “Congratulations. On the wedding. I know it’s late, but the schedule’s been insane.”
“Thank you,” I said. “It’s been…an adjustment.”
“I can imagine.” His attention was polite, warm, the public version of a man used to rooms full of people wanting something from him.
Then it flicked, almost involuntarily, toward Olivia-and stayed half a second longer than a normal greeting required. “You look nice.”

Olivia went red, like she was on fire. “Thanks. 1-yeah. Random. Effort. Have a date later.”
A date? Why would she say that?

Roman’s mouth twitched like he registered the awkwardness and found it more interesting than he should have.
For years he had treated Olivia like Ethan’s little sister in the background of their friendship.
Tonight, something felt different. Especially now that she’d mentioned she had a date.
“Ethan in the study?” he asked even though I noticed the way his fist tightened at his side.
“Yeah,” Olivia managed.
“I’ll catch you both after.” He gave me another nod, Olivia one more look that lingered just enough, and headed down the hall.
The second he was out of sight, Olivia fell to the ground dramatically.
“I need to lie down,” she whispered. “Or leave the country. Or become a different person.”
I grinned. “You looked nice.”
“Shut up.”
“He said so. I’m just repeating his words. I didn’t hear you tell him to shut up.”
“Blair.”
“Don’t you have a date to attend?”
She straightened, still flushed. “Don’t start with me. You know I don’t have a date. I just said that. I don’t know why I did it.”
“Come on,” I laughed. “You know exactly why you said that. You can’t fool me.”
She rolled her eyes, “says the one who’s in love with her husband and scared to admit it.”
“I am not.” I immediately became defensive.
“You lovesss him,” she sang under her breath, delighted. “Don’t forget to kiss him when you see him again. Mwah mwah-”
I rolled my eyes and dropped onto the couch. “You’re insane.”
“And you’re insanely in loveee.”
I glared at her.
She finally sat beside me, the panic about Roman still visible under the teasing. “What exactly happened? I can tell something did.”
“Grayson admitted to being jealous that Chase is trying to get me back.”
She gasped. “Grayson Shaw admitted to being jealous? That’s huge. That’s hot.”
“Olivia.”
“I’m just calling it.” She bumped her shoulder into mine, softer now. “For what it’s worth, I like this version of you better than the one trying so hard not to care. And if Grayson is done pretending too, maybe stop looking for reasons to talk yourself out of it.”
Talk myself out of it? I heard him myself telling Lily that he only had eyes for her. At the end of the day, he would always choose her over me. He knew her for much longer.
We could hear Roman’s voice from all the way here. Olivia’s attention drifted that direction for a second before she forced it back, still pink.
“I don’t know what I’m doing,” I said eventually.
Olivia snorted. “Join the club. Look at what I’m wearing just to impress a guy that will never notice me.”

I laughed, I was glad I wasn’t the only one having man troubles.
Tthan will freak out if he knows you have a crush on his best friend.” I pointed out.
She sighed, “it’s just a crush. It’s not like anything will ever happen between us.”

I shrugged, “you never know, Time will tell. Just like I always thought would marry Chase…look where life has brought me.”
