Lily was already seated when I arrived, two glasses of white wine waiting on the table like the celebration had started without me. We’d agreed to meet up and give an update on both of our lives. There was so much happening.

Besides, I needed a break from home. Every time I saw Chase, I wanted to punch him. I couldn’t believe he’d actually kissed Blair while being married to me.

Why was I even surprised? He’d slept with me while he was with her and he’d known her much longer. Though, I was the one that went after him. I saw the prize and I took it. Chase made it very easy for me.

I noticed right away that my best friend looked better than she had in weeks.

“Congratulations,” I said as I sat down in front of her. “You actually did it. Blair is out of the house and out of Grayson’s life for good. I am actually surprised you were able to convince him to let go. He seemed like he was starting to like her.”

Lily’s smile was slow and satisfied. “Sources close to the Shaws. I liked that phrasing. I was able to feed the paparazzi exactly what they wanted. Blair must think that Grayson made the announcement. It was me the entire time.”

I lifted my glass. “To Blair Monroe finally being thrown out.”

Lily smiled, “I must thank Chase as well. Him kissing Blair is the reason that Grayson even considered divorcing her.”

I stiffened. I was still very pissed about that.

“Chase still won’t let her go,” I said after the first sip. “He looks at me like I am the obstacle. I need tips. You managed to get Grayson to leave her. I need Chase to stop acting like he can’t live without her. It makes me

sick.”

Lily sighed. “It isn’t going to be as easy for you as it was for me. They’ve known each other for years. And now he knows the truth, about all the things she’s done for him. You’re going to have to use the guilt card as much as possible.”

“Go on.”

“Don’t bring up Blair to him. You make the conversation about what he did to you. Every time her name comes up, you bring it back to his loyalty to you. You cry when it counts. Not every time-that gets old. You pick the moments he is already tired. After practice. After a loss.”

I wasn’t sure I wanted to do all that. Crying? All I wanted to do was punch him for even thinking about being with Blair again.

Lily leaned in. “You remind him that your father is watching. Not as a threat every hour. Bring it up when you really need to.”

“And if he brings up what she did for him?”

“You make it about you again.” She answered. “Make up things. Pretend that you did even more for him that he never knew about. You have to show him that being with you is actually what’s best for him. Don’t give him the chance to think about her. Trust me, in the end, your reward will be worth it.”

I sat back, actually impressed. “You’ve thought about this.”

“I had time.” Lily’s mouth curled. “While Grayson was busy catching feelings, I watched the pattern.”

We drank. Celebrated again. For hours.

“The comments have been entertaining,” I said. “Serves her right.”

Lily laughed. “I may have encouraged a few of those narratives early. People love the childhood sweetheart. It sounds like destiny instead of a billionaire trying to force a marriage onto a successful hockey captain. The people will always choose my side.”

“One more thing,” she added. “Whatever you do, do not let Blair walk back into Chase’s life. Now that Grayson has divorced her, she will be looking for another captain to seduce. Chase is already going after her. He’s vulnerable right now. Try your hardest to ensure he isn’t anywhere she is. Put a tracker in his phone if you have to.”

That was a good idea.

I wrinkled my nose. “Thank you. Do not worry, Blair will not be entering any of our lives again. I’m sure she’s too embarrassed to even show her face.”

I thought of Chase’s expression when I threw the articles on the floor. He hadn’t looked surprised or defensive. He almost seemed pleased, like he wanted me to end the marriage for him.

My hand clenched at my side; he wasn’t going to get what he wanted. If he even tried to divorce me, I would take everything he had. I wouldn’t go down without a fight. He had more to lose than I did.

Lily tipped her glass. “The important part is that she is no longer in that house, wearing his name to games and cooking her way into his heart. I actually tasted one of her meals she’d left in the house. I almost puked. 1 can’t believe Grayson actually enjoyed that shit.”

“I’m just glad that she’s finally gone.” I smiled. “I was tired of watching her play the noble wife. She was getting too much popularity. People were actually starting to like her.”

The glasses met a third time. We laughed the way women laughed when they’d gotten exactly what they wanted.

“Now that this topic with Blair is over,” I said as I wiggled my eyebrows. “Tell me about that guy from the team. The one you slept with.”

Lily rolled her eyes, “he wants me so much it’s embarrassing. But before that, tell me about your little hook up! I need all of the details.”
