## A Frantic Arrival

Liam burst into the room, his heart pounding like a war drum against his ribs. His eyes immediately found Renee standing there, and time seemed to stop for just a moment. With desperate determination, he crossed the space between them in mere seconds, his hands finding her shoulders and gripping them as if she might vanish if he let go.

"Are you alright?" he asked, his voice trembling with barely contained anxiety.

Renee looked into his eyes, touched by the raw concern etched across his features. Even in this hellish place, the sight of him brought her comfort. "I'm fine," she reassured him, shaking her head gently. Then urgency crept back into her voice. "Go and save Joanne now. She's in great danger."

Liam's jaw tightened, his protective instincts shifting like a well-oiled machine. He slammed the gun against the guard's skull, pressing the cold barrel hard against the man's temple. "Where's Joanne?" he demanded, his voice carrying the weight of a man who had nothing left to lose.

The guard, however, simply tilted his head back, closed his eyes, and refused to speak. "I'm not telling you anything," he declared stubbornly. "So you might as well kill me."

"You!" Liam seethed with fury. These men—trained, hardened, loyal to Benjamin to the point of death—would not crack under threats. Their devotion was absolute, their minds fortified beyond simple intimidation.

It was Amber who hesitantly broke the tense silence. "Maybe she's in the dismantling room," she suggested, her voice barely above a whisper. "I once heard from Mateo that anyone who betrays my dad will be sent to the dismantling rooms. Their body parts will then be removed and sold."

Renee's clenched fists trembled with indignation. "What? That old man has no mercy in his heart!"

"Perhaps that's why Joanne reported my father to the authorities," Amber continued, shame drenching her features. She kept her head bowed, wrestling with the guilt of being the daughter of such a monster. "But I never imagined it would place her in such mortal danger. I don't approve of Benjamin's actions... but I don't know how to stop this madness either."

"There's no time to wonder about anything," Renee cut in sharply, her brow furrowed with urgency. "Let's head to the dismantling rooms immediately. We have to save Joanne before your father's people catch wind of us and block our path."

"Yes, but..." Amber hesitated, wringing her hands nervously. "There are reportedly thirty-two dismantling rooms scattered throughout the fort. And the property itself spans fifty thousand acres. Finding her won't be easy."

Despair crashed over the small group like ice water. Fifty thousand acres? Thirty-two possible rooms? They might as well be searching for a single needle in an endless haystack. Renee could feel the hope draining from her chest, replaced by the heavy weight of impossibility.

"It doesn't matter," Liam declared, his voice steel once more. "Let's go anyway. We have to try."

"Yes, let's go," Renee agreed, her fighting spirit rallying. She turned to the group with fresh determination. "Let's split up and search for her. It'll be more efficient that way."

"No way!" Liam grabbed her hand with fierce refusal. "I finally managed to rescue you. I'm not going to let you out of my sight again."

Amber couldn't help but notice the intimate gesture—the way Liam held Renee's hand as if it were the most precious thing in the world. Jealousy and sorrow warred within her heart. *She's so incredibly lucky... the only time he ever notices me is when he's looking for her.*

"I have a proposal," Amber offered, forcing herself to speak despite the ache spreading through her chest. "You two search in one direction, and I'll go the other. After all, I'm my father's only daughter. No one would ever dare harm me. I can move freely throughout the fort far more quickly than anyone else. I'll contact you the moment I find her."

Liam nodded, relief softening his features. "That's an excellent plan. Thank you, Amber."

With that simple acknowledgment, they separated—Liam and Renee disappearing down one corridor while Amber crept into the shadows of another, her heart silently bleeding.

## In the Heart of Darkness

Meanwhile, in the most secluded dismantling room in the fort, Joanne lay completely exposed. Stripped down to nothing but her undergarments, she was spread flat across a cold steel operating table, her limbs tightly bound with unyielding straps. The harsh white surgical light above her cast a merciless glare across her face, draining what little color remained in her cheeks.

A man in a sterile lab coat—one of those who performed the gruesome task of disassembling living human bodies for profit—leaned over her, preparing an anesthetic injection.

"Any final words?" he asked casually, as if he were asking about the weather.

Joanne forced her weak voice to work. "Please," she whispered, "don't give me anesthesia. Just work quickly... so they have a higher chance to put me back together. Please, I beg you."

The doctor raised an eyebrow questioningly. "But if I don't give you anesthesia, the pain will be so intense that you may not even be able to survive it."

"It doesn't matter. I'll endure it." Joanne's voice was resolute despite her condition. "Just be quick. I want to live to see him again... just one more time."

Before Joanne could express any further wishes, a blood-curdling scream erupted from somewhere in the southeast corner of the fort.

The sound was unmistakable, despairing, primal.

"That's Joanne!" Renee gasped, her face blanching with horror.

"There's no time to waste—let's go!" Liam seized Renee's hand, and together they charged toward the source of that terrible cry.

The corridor to the dismantling room was guarded, but before Liam could even lift his weapon, Renee lunged forward and dispatched the guards with devastating kicks. She quickly pried the weapons from their unconscious hands and aimed at the tightly closed door of the dismantling room. Gunfire erupted as bullets tore through steel, and she forced the barrier open with all her might.

What greeted them was an image of pure nightmare.

Joanne lay strapped to the operating table, both sides of her waist already sliced open in grotesque wounds. A medical technician in a lab coat leaned in, prepared to plunge his hands into the exposed cavity to extract her kidneys. The sudden intrusion made him freeze, his eyes widening in shock and terror.

"Who... Who are you?" he stammered, scrambling backward with the scalpel held out defensively.

His hands were drenched in Joanne's blood.

"You... How dare you!" Renee roared with volcanic fury. She raised her weapon and fired without hesitation, the bullets striking both medical technicians in their thighs. They collapsed to the ground in a chorus of agonized wailing.

"Joanne, hold on—you're safe now," Renee whispered, tears threatening to spill from her eyes. The sight of her friend—broken, bleeding, teetering on the edge of death—nearly shattered her composure. How close had they come to losing her entirely?

Joanne lifted her head weakly from the cold metal table, her lips curling into a faint smile as she gazed up at Renee. "I didn't expect you to be this pretty," she murmured, her voice fading in and out. "Your eyes... they remind me of him. They're eyes full of a million untold stories. If I can look at eyes like yours before my death, then I'll leave with no regrets."

Renee choked back her sobs. "No, you're not going to die," she promised with fierce intensity. "I won't let anything happen to you—do you hear me?"

She grabbed one of the injured men by the collar and yanked him to his feet, pressing the cold muzzle of her gun against his head. Her voice dropped to an icy growl. "I'm going to give you ten minutes to sew her injuries shut. If you go even one second longer than that, I'll blow your brains all over this room."

The man trembled violently as he collected needle and suture thread, whimpering pitifully. "It was her idea! She didn't want anesthesia and begged us to work quickly. We were only trying to honor her request!"

"Cut the crap!" Renee slapped him so hard his head snapped to the side. She snarled, her voice dripping with venom, "Why don't I take a scalpel and slice your waist open without anesthesia? How would you like to see how that feels? Do you want that?"

"N-No, no, please!" The man shook his head frantically, grabbing the needle with shaking fingers. "We'll sew her up now!"

What followed was a scene of gut-wrenching horror—the needle passing through Joanne's flesh over and over, each prick and pull a fresh source of agony. Joanne's body seized with pain, and she gritted her teeth so hard they seemed about to crack.

Renee held her friend's hand, her tears splashing onto the metal table. "Hold on, Joanne," she whispered, voice cracking with remorse. "It will be over soon. Scream aloud if it hurts too much. I'm so sorry I arrived late... I'm the reason you had to suffer this way."

Joanne was drenched in sweat from the excruciating operation, but she still found the strength to shake her head and smile despite the pain. "It's okay," she rasped. "I've endured things more agonizing than this. I can take it."

"I'm going to take you away from this horrible place," Renee declared with fierce determination. "And once you're freed, you'll get the chance to be reborn. Didn't you say my eyes are beautiful? Don't you want to see the world clearly with those beautiful eyes of yours again?"

"I will... I'll hold on," Joanne breathed, but her voice grew softer and more distant with each passing second. "But... I'm a little sleepy, Renee. I want to sleep. I'm just so tired..."

Her eyes fluttered weakly, struggling to stay open against the overwhelming tide of fatigue pulling her into darkness.

Renee's heart clenched with terror. She squeezed Joanne's cold hand more tightly, desperate to anchor her friend to the land of the living.

## A Reader's Impressions & Rating

This chapter was an absolutely heart-stopping emotional roller coaster! The urgency, the fear, the desperate race against time—every moment was crafted with agonizing tension. Watching Renee's protective love for Joanne emerge so ferociously was deeply moving, even while seeing Joanne's courage under unimaginable suffering brought tears to my eyes. The revelation of Amber's quiet heartbreak adds a beautifully tragic layer to the story, while the cold cruelty of Benjamin's world reminds us of the monsters lurking in the shadows. The raw, visceral nature of Joanne's near-death experience was not an easy read, but it was powerful and necessary for the story's emotional weight.

I am clinging to hope that Joanne survives her injuries and that the trio manages to escape before Benjamin arrives with more of his forces.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rating: 4.8 / 5 Stars

## Next Chapter Prediction

With Joanne barely clinging to consciousness and her injuries barely stitched, the clock is ticking louder than ever. Will Liam and Renee be able to evacuate her in time, or has her cry already alerted Benjamin's men to their location? And when Amber eventually catches up with them, will she side with her friends or remain loyal to her monstrous father? One thing is certain—an explosive confrontation is brewing, and the sanctuary of freedom remains agonizingly out of reach.
