# Chapter 2: The Price of Devotion
Hello everyone, it's me again! How are you all doing? Today I will continue to walk with you and review Chapter 2 of *The Untouchable Ex Wife*. If you thought the tension couldn't run any deeper, think again—because this chapter shows us just how far two stubborn hearts are willing to go for the people they love, and the fragile, dangerous bargain that might just destroy them both.

When Renee opened her eyes, the world had shifted. She was alive, but her body was weak, her wrists bandaged beneath her sleeves, and the man standing before her—the so-called antagonist, Jovan—was looking at her with something far more fragile than hatred.
He made her an offer. Not one of violence. Not one of revenge. An offer that left her utterly bewildered.
"If you're willing to live an isolated life with me," Jovan said, his voice low and earnest, "I'll give H Group up. I'll even stop meddling in all those disputes and fights."
Renee blinked at him, waiting for the catch. She had braced herself for something monstrous—perhaps servitude, perhaps humiliation. She had even prepared to slap him for being a shameless pervert. But this? A quiet, peaceful life together? That was the last thing she expected.
"That's it? I just have to go with you?" she asked, her voice full of suspicion and disbelief.
"That's right. That's all I want." Jovan closed his eyes, and there was longing written plainly all over his face. "We'll find a secluded place away from everyone and live a peaceful life."
Renee was stunned into silence. Jovan was no fool. He was cunning and calculated—he had schemed his way into taking H Group, overthrowing everything she had relied on. But here he was, in the end, nothing more than a love-struck man. He had fought so hard, done so many ruthless things, and after all that, all he truly wanted was to live quietly beside her.
It was strange. He was supposed to be the villain. So why didn't he act like one? Why was he so gentle, so humble, at this critical moment?
Jovan continued, his voice almost pleading. "Don't worry. I just want you to live a quiet life with me. I won't force you if you're unwilling to do anything else."
Renee arched an eyebrow. "Do you think you can?"
A soft, sad smile flickered across his face. "You won't know unless you give me a chance."
Then, just as he began to feel a glimmer of hope—eighteen years of longing, finally on the edge of victory—Renee raised her palm to stop him.
"I can go with you," she said, her tone firm and resolute, "but I have to be with Stefan until he's fully recovered and can see again."
That was her plan. It had always been her plan. She would protect Stefan's business, she would find him a woman who truly loved him, she would nurse him back to health—and only then, without any lingering worries, could she walk away for good.
Jovan's radiant hopes shattered in an instant. His gaze dulled, and a bitter laugh escaped his lips.
"Hmph! How are you going to do that? Do you want to use your blood to heal him again? You're so weak you can't even stand—how much blood do you even have left to give?"
Renee's eyes widened in shock. "How... how do you know?"
She had never told a soul about that. The medicine, the blood, the sacrifice—none of it. How could he possibly know?
Jovan reached out and grabbed her arms, his fingers pressing gently against the hidden wounds on her wrists. "Your body is weak, and there are bloody wounds on both of your wrists. Other than my dear, blind cousin, any sensible person would know."
Anger simmered beneath his voice, but so did grief. His grip was careful, yet his heart was raw. Hélène—no, Renee—was destroying herself for a man who couldn't even see her sacrifice, a man who didn't even know the true cost of his recovery.
"Renee, are you out of your mind? He doesn't even deserve this from you!"
But Renee's expression hardened. She pulled her hands back, her eyes growing colder than winter frost. "Well, you might get your peace of mind, but I certainly won't."
Jovan's features tensed. "What's your request?" he asked, still hopeful, still willing to grant her the moon if she asked for it. He had spent eighteen years chasing her, and now that she had agreed to come with him, he was ready to give her anything.
But Renee delivered her terms without hesitation: "Well, you might get your peace of mind, but I certainly won't. I can't leave with you while Stefan's future is still uncertain. I have to make sure he's safe, that H Group is protected, and that he finds a woman who truly loves him. After that... I'll go with you."
Jovan's face twisted. This wasn't the deal he had dreamed of. His voice turned solemn, almost desperate. "I can't promise you that. I want you to leave with me right away—not sacrifice yourself for him again. Do you understand what you're doing? You're using your own body to save a man who may never even know the truth!"
Renee shook her head firmly. "Well, then we can't reach a deal. You can leave now."
She tried to get out of bed, determined to ask Margaret about Stefan's condition. His body had just begun to recover. She couldn't allow his medicine to stop. She didn't know how long she had been unconscious—or whether the blood she had given him earlier had been enough to keep him alive.
Panic surged through Jovan. He blocked her path, his composure cracking. "Be clear. What do you mean? Do you regret it? Do you not want to go with me now?"
"I was clear enough," Renee replied, her voice icy. "I can't leave him be. And if anyone tries to stop me, I'll have to kill them all."
Her eyes flashed with lethal intent as she spoke. At that moment, she was not frail or broken. She was a woman who had made up her mind—a woman who would burn the world before she allowed anyone to hurt Stefan.
Jovan stood there, frowning deeply, feeling utterly defeated. He had planned every move meticulously, covered every angle, and yet here he was—helpless against a stubborn woman who would not bend.
Finally, he let out a long breath. "Okay, I won't stop you. If you must stay with him, then I'll stay with you. But understand this: the moment he recovers, you belong to me. You must go with me then!"
He gritted his teeth, spitting out the words like they were poison. It was the largest compromise he could ever make. Gone was his arrogance, his scheming confidence. In that humbled, flustered state, he looked almost pitiful—a man willing to wait at the altar of a woman who could never love him back, all because he couldn't bear to let her go.
Renee stared at his flushed face. For a long moment, the room was dead silent. Then, at last, she gave a simple nod.
"Deal."
She didn't understand his stubbornness, just as he failed to understand hers. But the one thing they did share was a deep, consuming fear of regret. She refused to let Stefan face his darkness alone. And Jovan refused to let go of the only light he had ever known.
Two wounded souls. Two impossible blessings. One ruthless bargain sealed with a single word.
But as Renee lay back down, staring at the ceiling with exhausted eyes, she wondered silently: when Stefan finally opened his eyes and saw the world again... would he see her waiting for him? Or would she already be gone?

**Reader's Impressions & Star Rating:**
Oh, what a heart-wrenching chapter! I couldn't help but feel tangled up in emotions here. On one side, I find myself actually feeling sorry for Jovan—he's supposed to be the antagonist, yet all he wants is a quiet life with Renee. He loves her in his own twisted, possessive, but somehow sincere way. And then there's Renee, who is absolutely infuriating in the best sense—fierce, determined, reckless, and selfless to the point of self-destruction. Her devotion to Stefan is beautiful and tragic all at once. The clash between her quiet sacrifice and Jovan's desperate compromise gave me goosebumps. And that ending—"Deal"—felt like both a promise and a funeral bell. It is dramatic, emotional, and deep. I absolutely love it.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 4.9 / 5 Stars
**Next Chapter Prediction:**
Now that Jovan has agreed to wait until Stefan recovers, I believe the real storm is just beginning. Stefan is on the mend, and once his sight returns, he will undoubtedly discover that Renee helped him—and possibly learn about the blood sacrifices she made. Will he finally see the truth? Will Jovan try to take her away before her mission is truly complete? And what happens when Stefan, the "blind cousin," realizes that the woman he loves is making a deal with his enemy to protect him? I predict a heartbreaking confrontation—and maybe even a race against time between Stefan's recovery and Jovan's patience wearing thin.
