# Chapter 271: Sunflowers, Secrets, and a Slice of Temptation

Hello everyone, it's me again! How are you all doing? Today I will continue to walk with you and review Chapter 271 of "The Untouchable Ex Wife." This chapter is quieter than most, yet it carries an emotional weight that hits right in the chest. We see wounded hearts, secret midnight visits, and a man willing to give up everything for someone who hasn't yet allowed herself to love him back. So settle in, because this journey is far from over.

The night was cold and heavy with worry inside Jovan's home. Eloise stood before him, her voice trembling as she delivered the troubling news. "She fell..." Those two simple words shot through Jovan like a lightning bolt. His heart pounded so violently that he could hardly breathe. He dared not imagine what had happened to Renee, but his instincts screamed at him to do something, anything, to make sure she was safe.

"Go to her hospital now and ask around," he ordered, trying hard to control his anxiety. "I want accurate information on this."

Eloise hesitated, torn between her duty to him and her fear of leaving him alone in such a desperate state. "I can do that, but I'm the only one taking care of you now. Is it alright if I leave you alone?" She watched his desolate expression, immediately regretting having told him the news. His face was so pale, so skeletal from illness and heartbreak, that he looked like a shadow of the man he used to be.

But Jovan didn't care about himself. "Don't bother. I won't be okay if she's not. Go now," he urged, his voice shaking with urgency.

Eloise nodded reluctantly and turned to leave, but Jovan called out one more time. "Wait, the sunflowers seem to have bloomed in the backyard. Do me a favor and pick a bouquet for her. I'm sure it'll smell nice." His eyes grew tender at the thought of her. In the midst of his own suffering, he still remembered Renee's favorite flowers. He wanted her to have something beautiful, even when he could not be there himself.

"Yes, okay, I will." Eloise's voice cracked as tears rolled down her cheeks. It pained her to see such love, love so pure yet so heartbreaking. She thought to herself that people shouldn't fall in love so easily. Jovan had once been a man of logic and calm, but now he was nothing more than a lovestruck fool, sacrificing everything for an unrequited love. He had given his entire heart, his entire existence, to Renee—with no guarantee that she would ever accept it. And somehow, that made his devotion even more tragic.

Meanwhile, a new rhythm had developed in Renee's hospital room. Every night, after the world grew quiet, Stefan would slip in under the cover of darkness. Sometimes they argued, their voices sharp with old wounds and unresolved anger. Sometimes they talked, their words softer, almost like they were trying to find their way back to each other. And sometimes they simply sat side by side in silence, breathing the same air, pretending that everything was normal when nothing was.

Renee slowly got used to his presence. She no longer tried to chase him away. In fact, she even helped him hide by shooing off other visitors whenever he was around, afraid that he might bump into someone who would recognize him. But deep down, a part of her was disappointed in herself. She had promised to stay away from Stefan, to guard her fragile heart, and yet here she was, drifting closer to him with every passing night.

One evening, the hospital room was especially quiet. Renee was enjoying a rare forbidden treat—a slice of black velvet cake that Stefan had secretly smuggled in for her. She bit into the rich, dark layers and chewed thoughtfully, then narrowed her eyes at him.

"My lower back still hurts," she said with a playful glare. "Once I get better, you're the first person I'll drive away."

Stefan didn't seem even slightly threatened. He looked at her with that cold, amused expression that made it impossible to tell whether he was teasing or serious. "You're all talk and no action. Get well and drive me away quickly then."

"I won't let you go that easily..." Renee shot back fiercely, her cheeks puffing slightly. But then her tone melted into something sweet and almost childish as she looked up at him with pleading eyes. "Is there more cake? I want to have more."

Of course, that cake wasn't ordinary. The bakery only sold ten of them each day, making it nearly impossible to obtain. And on top of that, Quinton had been controlling Renee's diet like a hawk, forbidding her from eating desserts during her recovery. Yet Stefan had easily discovered this little weakness of hers. He knew exactly how much she craved that cake, and he used it like bait to get her cooperation. Every time she complained, every time she tried to push him away, he simply dangled another slice in front of her, and she would surrender.

"Of course there's more," Stefan said, a genuine smile lighting up his features. He reached into his bag, pulled out another slice of that gorgeous black velvet cake, and held it out to her tenderly. "Open your mouth."

And Renee, the woman who had sworn to keep him at arm's length, found herself silently opening her mouth, accepting both the cake and the dangerous closeness that came with it.

## Reader's Impressions & Star Rating

Oh, this chapter was heartbreaking and sweet at the same time! I felt so much sympathy for Jovan. He is lying there, sick and broken, yet all he can think about is Renee's safety and her favorite sunflowers. The image of him asking Eloise to pick a bouquet for the woman who may never love him back is enough to make anyone cry. At the same time, the midnight scenes between Stefan and Renee are full of chemistry. Their banter, the stolen desserts, the quiet intimacy... I love seeing that guarded woman slowly soften around him, even if her pride makes her pretend otherwise. This chapter didn't need dramatic action or epic fights—the emotional pull between these characters was more than enough to keep me hooked. I give this chapter a solid 4.8 out of 5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

## Next Chapter Prediction

Based on the way this chapter ended, I think Jovan's gift of sunflowers will reach Renee very soon, and this will create a complicated emotional collision between her memories of the past and her blooming closeness with Stefan. Will Renee finally learn the full truth about Jovan's sacrifice? And will Stefan's secret visits be exposed by Quinton or another visitor? Something tells me the calm peace of this hospital room is about to be shattered very soon!
