# Chapter 42: The Predator's Trap
Hello everyone, it’s me again! How are you all doing? Today I will continue to walk with you and review Chapter 42 of *The Untouchable Ex Wife*. This is a chapter that crackles with tension, frustration, and the cold, calculated genius of a man who refuses to lose. Buckle up, because Renee is about to walk right into the lion's den — and she knows it.
---
Renee froze, her blood running cold as the driver’s words echoed in her ears. “Mr. Hunt sends his regards?!”
She furrowed her brows tightly, disbelief washing over her like a wave of ice. Her voice trembled with desperate uncertainty. “Are you sure that was what that man said? Are you mistaken?”
The driver coughed twice, his voice firm despite his injuries. “Joan, I did get hurt, but I’m not dumb. I remember what happened at that time. I don’t have to lie to you.”
The man hailed from the same hometown as them, and his English had always been impeccable. There was no way she had misheard him. Yet, the weight of his words crushed her like an avalanche. The poor driver recounted how everything had happened too fast — he had no time to cry for help, no chance to protect Van. All he could do was watch helplessly as Van was dragged away by another man.
Renee stood there, stupefied, countless dark possibilities churning through her mind like a storm. At last, she gave the driver a firm bow and left the hospital, her heart heavy as stone.
Outside, the morning air was bitterly cold, damp and suffocatingly gloomy — mirroring the tempest inside her. She walked the streets alone, her thoughts spiraling.
If the driver’s words were true, the mastermind behind this sinister kidnapping was self-evident. “Damn it!” she cursed under her breath. The realization struck her like lightning.
She should have known. She had bumped into Stefan Hunt at the elevator that day, and she should have predicted he would never give up. Especially since Stefan saw Jovan as the man who had snatched his position, humiliated him, and forced him into a sorry state. Now that Jovan had fallen, Stefan would never, ever let him off the hook. Worse still, Stefan was the only person alive who knew Jovan’s current whereabouts. It was a perfect, despicable puzzle.
Renee took a deep breath. Every fiber of her being screamed at her to avoid Stefan Hunter at all costs. But she had no choice. She had to go to him and get to the bottom of this.
Her jaw clenched in bitter resignation. This was Stefan’s genius, his meticulous scheme to catch her. He hadn’t even needed to lift a finger to summon her. He didn’t have to see her face. He didn’t have to beg, threaten, or chase her. He simply pulled the strings, and she was forced to come running like a puppet. Stefan Hunt was indeed an apex predator, patient and ruthless.
Without further delay, Renee made her way to the hospital where Stefan was staying. She learned from a nurse that Seraphina still needed another week of treatment before she could be discharged. Stefan, no doubt, was cozily installed in Seraphina’s ward, playing the role of the perfect, devoted fiancé, without a single worry in the world.
With a heavy mind, Renee approached Seraphina’s ward. But instead of knocking immediately, she hovered outside the door for a long while. Her hand hovered in the air, her knuckles pale.
Frankly, if she had any other option, she would have burned this entire hospital to the ground rather than face them again. She didn’t possess a docile temper, and she certainly had no appetite to watch their little romance drama unfold her like some enthusiastic spectator. If they started flaunting their affection right in front of her, she was terrified she’d punch them both.
“Huh? Calm down. Hold yourself back,” she whispered to herself, forcing her racing heart to slow.
Finally, she knocked.
The door swung open to reveal a fair-skinned, completely unfamiliar woman. “You are?” the woman asked, blinking in confusion.
Renee was momentarily stunned, then her eyes darted past the stranger, scanning the room. Stefan and Seraphina were gone. In their place lay a different patient entirely, calmly resting in the bed.
Renee stepped back and double-checked the ward number. No, this was the right ward. The number was correct.
At that moment, a nurse happened to walk by. When she spotted Renee, her face lit up with surprise and delight. “Wow, Joan! As expected, you came back. Mr. Hunt said that you would come back.”
Renee’s eyes narrowed. “Mr. Hunt?”
“Yes, Miss Murphy was discharged in advance. Before Mr. Hunt left, he gave me a letter and asked me to pass it to you. He told me I’d see you soon.”
The nurse fumbled in her bag, producing an envelope. Renee’s blood pounded in her ears as she took it, her fingers almost numb. She tore it open aggressively, revealing a single line of plain, damning handwriting:
*You reap what they have sown. Come to me if you want him back.*
“Damn it!” she hissed through clenched teeth.
The trap was closing. Stefan Hunt had dangled the bait, and Renee had no choice but to bite. He knew it. She knew it. And the cruelest part was that there was absolutely nothing she could do to escape it.

**Reader’s Impressions & Star Rating:**
Oh, I feel so angry on Renee’s behalf! This chapter perfectly captures the tension and frustration of being trapped by an enemy who always stays three steps ahead. Stefan is infuriatingly brilliant — he turned her love and loyalty into a weakness she cannot ignore. The writing is taut, emotional, and keeps you burning for more. I love how vulnerable and human Renee feels while also being desperately strong. I just want to yell at her to be careful... but I know she has no choice. Honestly, this chapter left my heart racing.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 4.9/5 Stars
**Next Chapter Prediction:**
With that chilling letter in her hands, Renee will have no choice but to swallow her pride and go directly to Stefan Hunt. I predict she will confront him in a face-to-face showdown, where the air will be thick with unspoken history, rage, and bitter longing. Stefan will be coldly arrogant, dangling Jovan’s fate in front of her like a hunter toying with his prey — but Renee will not go down so easily. Something tells me that behind her anger, there will be a painful crack of emotion, and Stefan’s ultimate price may be much darker than she can imagine. The next chapter is going to be an explosive collision of power, pride, and hearts too stubborn to break.
