At the mention of that name, Leia tensed.

But after that incident, he became pessimistic... depressed. I felt terrible for ruining his future. And I knew that if I didn’t repay him, I would never be able to live with myself.”

Leia stared at her friend, barely holding back her frustration. She wanted to argue, wanted to grab Renee by the shoulders and shake her, but Renee’s voice was so sincere, so full of quiet peace, that Leia found herself listening instead.
“I’m not lying. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt so relaxed,” Renee added, her smile genuine.
Leia’s anger gradually ebbed. Some of the fire in her chest dimmed, but she still couldn’t accept the injustice of it all. “But it’s Stefan who owed him something, isn’t it? He did nothing, but you’re here suffering on his behalf. I feel sorry for you!”

“Isn’t it better for him to owe it to me instead of the other way around?” she said quietly.

Renee didn’t answer immediately. She simply turned her face back toward the breeze, her heart guarded.
