The moment Santiago's voice sliced through the stillness, Leia's world lurched back into focus. She had been lost—completely, dangerously lost—in the warmth of Xavier's touch, in his wandering hands and the reckless electricity crackling between them. But now, with her name hanging in the air like an accusation, reality crashed down on her with suffocating force.

"Stop!" she gasped, her voice barely a whisper as she snatched Xavier's hand and stilled it. Her pulse was a wild drumbeat in her ears, and her eyes were wide with panic. She couldn't let Santiago find her like this. Not now. Not ever.

"We can't do this..." she breathed, shame and desperation tangling in her words.

"Why not?" Xavier's voice was low and unyielding. His shirt was already off, revealing the confident, muscled frame of a man who had never needed to beg for anyone's attention. He looked at her with a mixture of amusement and frustration, his eyes glinting under the dim light.

Then he leaned in, his lips brushing against her ear with teasing cruelty.

"Are you sure you want me to open the door for them now?"

The words hit Leia like a splash of ice water. Her body went rigid, and she shook her head frantically, gripping his arms so tightly that her knuckles whitened. "No! I'll kill you if you make a sound!" she hissed.

Because if Santiago walked in and saw her in bed with Xavier, everything would collapse. The fragile connection she had carefully rebuilt with him would be crushed into dust. She knew it was selfish—oh, she knew it—but she couldn't bring herself to let go of what she had with Santiago. Not yet. Maybe not ever.

After all, humans were greedy by nature. And Leia was no different.

Outside the cottage, Megan's knocking grew more impatient. The fragile old door groaned under the force of her pounding fist like a wounded animal.

"Is there someone in there? We're coming in if not!"

Leia held her breath. Her body was pressed against Xavier, her heart hammering so loudly she was certain the entire world could hear it. She squeezed her eyes shut, replaying every reckless choice that had led her to this ridiculous, maddening moment.

Xavier, despite the unease crawling through his chest, couldn't help but smile at her guilt-stricken expression. There was something almost comical about the way she writhed in panic, as if she had been caught stealing a precious treasure that didn't belong to her. A wicked impulse seized him, and before he could stop himself, his fingers crept toward her sides and began to tickle her mercilessly.

"Ah! Haha!" The laughter burst out of Leia before she could catch it. Her eyes flew wide open, and she gasped, immediately clamping a trembling hand over her mouth. But the damage had been done. The chaotic peal of laughter had already escaped the cottage and danced into the ears of the two people outside.

"Who's in there? Can you say something? I would like to use this cottage?" Megan called out, her curiosity piqued and her voice tinged with suspicion.

Leia was beside herself. She shot Xavier a murderous glare while he simply grinned like a mischievous child, thoroughly enjoying the chaos he had caused.

Then, finally, the voice that mattered most broke through the tension.

"Forget it. Let's go since there's someone in there. Don't trouble them," Santiago said, his tone calm and measured as always.

"Okay, Mr. Dalton." Megan's reluctance was obvious, but she had no choice but to follow. Their footsteps began to fade, growing softer and softer, until silence swallowed the space between the trees.

A long, shaky sigh of relief escaped Leia's lips. She felt as though she had just survived a narrow brush with a disaster that could have destroyed everything. Her legs trembled as she rose, and then, without a moment's hesitation, she turned and punched Xavier hard in the arm.

"Are you out of your mind? Why would you do that?" she snarled, her eyes blazing.

Xavier rubbed his sore arm, but there was no apology in his gaze. Instead, there was only a bitter, wounded pride.

"Everyone knows about our relationship! So why is it so embarrassing that you were alone in a room with me?" His voice rose with indignation, but underneath it lay the ache of a man who had never been made to feel like a dirty secret before.

To Xavier, they *were* a couple. Their relationship was plain as day. So why was she acting like a guilty lover caught red-handed? It was humiliating in a way he had never experienced. He had always been the one to leave, the one to be chased. Never the one hiding in the shadows.

"Yes, it's embarrassing! I don't want to have anything to do with you!" The words flew out of Leia's mouth like venom, even as she smoothed down her rumpled clothes. Her mind buzzed with questions. How would she explain this to Santiago later? Should she even explain it at all? Every possibility felt like a trap.

"Is that pretty boy so important to you? Don't tell me you've taken a fancy to him!" Xavier scoffed, his tone sharp and mocking as he watched her move toward the door.

"It's none of your business." Leia turned and looked at him once, challengingly.

And then she delivered the cutting blow.

"If you can enjoy the best of both worlds, why can't I?"

The words hung between them like a bitter verdict, and without waiting for a response, Leia slipped out of the cottage through the side door, disappearing into the world beyond.

Left alone among the tangled sheets and shattered expectations, Xavier let out a bitter chuckle. His eyes softened with an emotion he rarely allowed himself to show.

"I've never done that to you, silly girl."

But she was already gone, leaving only the echo of her greed and his unspoken heartbreak behind.

## Reader's Impressions & Star Rating

Oh, this chapter was a delicious, painful roller coaster of emotions. The tension was absolutely suffocating — from Leia's frantic panic when Santiago appeared, to that reckless, laughable moment when Xavier tickled her at the worst possible time. You can't help but feel conflicted: part of you wants to laugh at the absurdity, and part of you aches for Xavier, who is finally realizing he's just the other man in someone else's story. Leia's selfishness is realistically human, but it's hard not to feel cheated for both men in her life. The writing delivers sharp dialogue, raw emotions, and a cliffhanger that leaves you hungry for more.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 4.7 / 5 Stars

## Next Chapter Prediction

Leia may have escaped the cottage, but her troubles are far from over. Santiago is not a fool — that laughter was unmistakable, and he likely recognized her voice behind it. In the next chapter, expect a quiet, dangerous confrontation where Santiago subtly tests Leia, making her squirm under the weight of unspoken suspicion. Meanwhile, Xavier's wounded pride might prompt him to stop being the patient, quiet lover and start doing something bold — perhaps even exposing their relationship himself, just to see if Leia truly values him at all. A love triangle is about to become a battlefield.
