Leia's heart hammered against her ribs like a caged bird. She had called Renee's phone at least a dozen times, and every unanswered ring sent another shiver of dread crawling down her spine. Her frown deepened into a mask of pure anxiety as she clutched the phone tightly.

"What's going on? Why isn't Ren picking up my calls? There's something wrong," she muttered, her voice trembling with unease.

Her mind raced through every grim possibility. Renee should be at the hospital right now — and anyone who knew Renee knew that she always kept her phone nearby to pass the time. If she wasn't answering, something was definitely wrong. The knot in Leia's stomach tightened with each passing second.

"I have to go to the hospital to see Ren. Something must have happened to her!" Leia declared, pushing her blanket aside with frantic urgency, ready to bolt out of bed despite her weakened state.

But before her feet could even touch the floor, Xavier pressed her firmly back down onto the mattress. His expression was a mixture of exasperation and deep concern — not just for Renee, but for the woman in his arms who was about to undergo surgery in less than an hour.

"Just stop! Please!" Xavier's voice was strained, pleading. "Nothing will go wrong, okay? Renee's good at martial arts — you're worrying for nothing. Besides, you'll be going in for surgery in an hour."

"But—" Leia started to protest, her eyes glistening with unshed tears of worry.

Xavier sighed exasperatedly, running a hand through his hair. He could see that Leia wouldn't let this go easily. "I'll ask Stefan to check on her if you're that worried," he offered, hoping to calm her racing heart.

But while Leia was fretting in that hospital room, unaware of her friend's fate, Renee was somewhere far more sinister — drifting back to consciousness in a large bed that felt alien beneath her body.

---

Renee's eyes fluttered open, and her gaze swept across a strange white room. The walls were pristine, almost sterile, and the cold emptiness of the space made her heart seize with confusion. For a brief, horrifying moment, she wondered if she had awakened in a morgue — surrounded by nothing but cold silence and clinical whiteness.

"You're finally awake."

The voice came from somewhere near the window — flat, indifferent, as if life and death were nothing more than passing weather to the speaker. Renee's blood ran cold.

"You were in a coma for three days because the drug I used was too strong," the woman continued, her tone carrying a hint of dark amusement. "I actually thought you'd stay that way forever..."

Renee's head snapped toward the woman standing at the window, her vision adjusting to the pale light filtering through the glass. Recognition struck her like lightning — it was the woman who had snuck into her hospital ward that night. The memory flashed through Renee's mind like a warning bell.

"It's... you," Renee breathed, her frown deepening.

"I'm honored you remember me," Eloise scoffed, her voice dripping with sarcasm as she tended to a bouquet of sunflowers resting beside the window. She picked up a pair of scissors and began trimming the stems with meticulous care, placing each sunflower into a crystal vase with an almost obsessive precision. The arrangement was beautiful — vibrant petals glowing like captured sunlight.

But there was nothing beautiful about the coldness in Eloise's eyes.

"The master said sunflowers are your favorite," Eloise murmured, her gaze fixed on the flowers as she spoke. "That's why he ordered me to plant sunflowers in the garden. Now they're all in bloom... but he can't even see them."

A bitter laugh escaped her lips as she snipped another stem with more force than necessary. "It's just like his unrequited love — beautiful, but unnoticed. What a shame..."

The anger in her voice was barely concealed, simmering beneath every word like a pot about to boil over.

Renee's heart stuttered in her chest. A name rose to her lips before she could stop it, a name she hadn't spoken in far too long. "Are you talking about... Jovan?"

Eloise paused, her scissors hovering mid-air. The silence that followed was deafening.

"You still remember him?" she said, turning slowly to face Renee, her hatred for the woman before her easing — just a fraction. "Hmph. Looks like his sacrifices aren't wasted after all."

"Is it really Jovan?" Renee asked excitedly, a surge of hope mixing with confusion flooding through her veins. She tried to move — to throw aside the blanket and get out of bed — but to her absolute horror, her body refused to respond. Panic clawed at her throat as she realized she couldn't move a single muscle.

She glared at Eloise, her voice sharp with accusation. "What did you do to me?"

"Don't worry," Eloise said casually, as if discussing the weather. "It's just a numbing drug that will paralyze you for a while."

Sweat beaded on Renee's forehead as she struggled against the invisible chains binding her body. She willed her legs to move, gritted her teeth with effort — but nothing happened. Her lower body remained completely immobile, dead to her commands. Finally, feeling utterly defeated, she stopped struggling and let her head fall back against the pillow.

"Did Jovan ask you to do this?" Renee's voice was hoarse, trembling with a mixture of fear and guilt. "Does he want to take revenge on me?"

For a moment, a flicker of something — perhaps pity, perhaps contempt — crossed Eloise's face. "No," she said, her voice softening almost imperceptibly. "He loves you too much for that. He gave up his eyes and blood for you, remember? He can't bear to hurt you, so there's no way he'd want to take revenge on you."

She paused, letting the weight of her next words sink in. "All of this is my idea."

Eloise rose from her position by the window and walked toward Renee with measured, deliberate steps. She reached down and wrapped her fingers around Renee's jaw, roughly lifting her head so their eyes met.

"I can't bear seeing him hiding in this isolated estate for your sake," Eloise sneered, her grip tightening. "The kind of man he used to be... and what he's become now. He just indulges in his despair, like moss growing in the dark — forgotten, invisible, rotting away while the world moves on without him."

Her voice grew sharper, more venomous. "But what about you? So many men dote on you, shower you with love and attention... but have you ever thought about the one man who's in pain because of you?"

The words hit Renee like physical blows. Tears welled in her eyes as guilt crashed over her in waves. "I've wronged Jovan," she whispered, looking away, her fists clenching helplessly at her sides. "So many things have been happening lately, and I haven't had the time to look for him. It's my fault."

"Hmm..." Eloise's laugh was hollow, mocking. "You didn't have the time to look for my master, but you had the time to meet Stefan every night. You had the time to bicker with Mr. Baldwin and chat with Mr. Osborne. You were really busy..." Her voice dropped to a dangerous whisper. "...so much so that you forgot about my master."

Without warning, Eloise's fingers wrapped around Renee's pale throat, squeezing just enough to make her gasp for air.

"Did you know that my master came up with countless methods to kill himself while you were with Stefan?" Eloise's voice cracked with barely restrained emotion. "His wrists were full of cuts. No matter where I hid the razor blades, he'd find them. He used to be so strong — a force to be reckoned with — but now he's weak and fragile."

Renee's eyes widened with horror as Eloise tightened her grip, her voice rising with anguish.

"Do you even know what he's been through?"

And there, suspended in that terrifying moment, with Eloise's fingers around her throat and the weight of a man's broken heart pressing down on her conscience, Renee's world collapsed into darkness — leaving us breathless, waiting for what comes next.

## Reader's Impressions & Rating

This chapter is an emotional gut punch from start to finish. I could feel Leia's panic in those opening moments, Xavier's helpless frustration, and Renee's terrifying awakening into an unknown world. But the real heart of this chapter lies in Eloise — a character I initially dismissed as a minor antagonist who has now revealed herself to be a deeply complex and sorrowful figure. Her raw anger toward Renee is rooted not in villainy, but in desperate loyalty to a broken man she clearly loves deeply. The sunflower metaphor was absolutely haunting — beautiful but unnoticed, just like Jovan's sacrifice. Learning about Jovan's suicide attempts sent chills down my spine; this is a man who gave everything for Renee and has been drowning in despair while she moved on with her life. The revelation that Eloise took matters into her own hands completely flips the power dynamics, and I genuinely don't know how Renee will escape this situation — nor whether she'll even want to once she sees what Jovan has become.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 4.7 / 5 Stars

## Next Chapter Prediction

Renee will likely be forced to confront Jovan face-to-face in his broken state, and seeing him — blind, scarred, mentally shattered — will plunge her into a turmoil of guilt and responsibility. But I predict that Eloise's extreme methods might backfire: Jovan, upon learning what his devoted servant has done to Renee, may react with rage rather than gratitude. Could his love for Renee transform into a twisted form of possession now that he finally has her trapped in his domain? And with Leia in surgery and Stefan on his way to check on Renee, the clock is ticking — will anyone find her before it's too late?
