# Chapter 95: The Dungeon's Unexpected Reunion

Hello everyone, it's me again! How are you all doing today? I hope life is treating you kindly. Today, I will walk with you through another thrilling chapter of "The Untouchable Ex Wife" — a chapter filled with betrayal, dark secrets, and a reunion no one saw coming. Let's step into the dim candlelight of Benjamin Jenkins' fortress and see what fate has in store for Renee...

The night felt heavy inside the fortified manor, as if the walls themselves were holding their breath. A long banquet table was laid out for Benjamin Jenkins and his closest men, but the atmosphere was far from celebratory. Whispers slithered through the room like snakes, and every mention of the name "Joanne" drew dark scowls from the men seated near the head of the table.

Noah Gomez, Benjamin's third foster son, was the first to speak his mind. His fingers drummed against the armrest as he said in a cold, clipped tone: "She was the leader in the red light district previously, so of course, she isn't a nice woman. I knew that she had some ulterior motives as soon as I met her. As expected, she was soon exposed — and actually dared to lay a hand on Master. As a result, the police confiscated a batch of Master's goods, and we suffered a terrible loss. Don't you think she's infuriating?"

Another of Benjamin's foster sons, Liam, furrowed his brow. He was quieter than his brothers, but his mind never stopped working. "You're right," he said slowly, unease flickering in his eyes. "If Joanne really betrayed the fort, she might be dead by now, given Mr. Jenkins' ruthlessness." The thought made his jaw clench. He did not seem entirely convinced the matter was so black and white — but in this house, no one dared challenge the old man's judgment. Still, the unmistakable dread in his voice was hard to hide.

Seated far from the main table, Renee strained her ears. Her heart thumped wildly behind her ribs. Though she could not catch every word, the name "Joanne" floated through the air again and again, wrapped in furious tones. Suddenly, her curiosity transformed into a burning need to act. She was reasonably certain of the danger Joanne was in — and if there was any chance she could reach her before Benjamin's wrath consumed her completely, Renee knew she had to do something now. Impatient and bold, she filled a glass with wine, straightened her shoulders, and glided toward Benjamin Jenkins' table.

When she arrived, she flashed her most respectful smile and lifted the glass. "Mr. Jenkins," she said, keeping her voice steady, "I'm new here, but I didn't bring you any gift. Let me offer you a toast as an apology."

She tipped her chin back and drank the entire glass in one theatrical motion, hoping to disarm the old man with her courage.

But Benjamin did not even look at her.

It was as if she were invisible — no, worse, as if she were a stain on his floor. He continued conversing with his men, but loudly enough for everyone to hear, he sneered: "You know the truth about most women in this world? They are worthless, except my dear Gem. They don't even have the right to eat at the same table as me, let alone toast me. This woman thinks too highly of herself."

Renee froze. The sting of his words washed over her like boiling oil, but she clenched her teeth and swallowed her outrage. She had met patronizing men before, but this was a different breed of cruelty. Nonetheless, Renee could not risk losing control — not now, not when Joanne's life was on the line. Still, her hesitation cost her.

"How dare you offend Mr. Jenkins?" a guard roared, stepping toward her viciously. "If not for Mr. Osborne, your tongue would have been cut off by now! Stay in there and reflect on your actions." With one brutal shove, the guard pushed her down a narrow stone stairway into a small, dark room hidden deep beneath the fortress — the dungeon.

The heavy door slammed shut with an echoing clang, leaving Renee momentarily blinded. The air was stale, damp, and thick with the smell of forgotten souls. The tiny room pressed against her throat, tightening around her like a cold hand, making it hard to breathe.

Then she heard it.

A rustle. A movement in the farthest corner.

Renee's eyes squinted into the darkness. "Who's there?" she asked, her voice tight with alertness.

A shadow shifted against the wall, and a woman's voice emerged — toneless, flat, almost inhuman in its emptiness. "You're new here?"

Renee could not make out her face, but something about that eerie, hollow tone rang a bell. Her heart skipped. She hesitated, then asked cautiously, "Could you be... Joanne?"

The air stilled.

"You're new here, but you know me," the woman said, a teasing edge slipping into her monotone voice. "You don't seem like the average person." It was clear she assumed Renee must be someone special to end up thrown in this dungeon too.

A wave of relief crashed through Renee. "You're Joanne?" She rushed toward the woman, her voice brightening unexpectedly. "That's great! I didn't expect to see you so soon!"

But instead of a warm welcome, Joanne recoiled as though she had been burned. "Hey, back off! I don't know you, so stop acting so pally," she snapped. In the darkness, her posture hardened, ready to attack or retreat at any moment. Joanne had been hurt too many times in her life — beaten, betrayed, and abandoned by those she trusted most. She had long ago promised herself she would never let her guard down in front of anyone again.

Renee knew she needed to say something that would break through that icy armor. So she took a deep breath and asked, "It doesn't matter if you don't know me. You should... You should know the boss of Carmine Pawnshop, right? Quinton, who's called Night Demon?"

The effect was instant.

"Brother..." Joanne's voice — which had been so cold and guarded just moments before — softened like the first light of dawn over snow. For a fleeting moment, she sounded less like a hardened criminal and more like a lost little girl who desperately missed a home she once had.

"Yes," Renee said, her tone gentle yet searching. "He was once the brother you loved the most, but you betrayed him. I'm glad you still remember him." She wondered if this fragile crack in Joanne's armor was a chance to reach the truth.

But the crack sealed instantly, harder than before. Joanne gritted her teeth, barely resisting the urge to curse Renee for daring to speak of a bond she clearly did not understand. "Brother... I did do him wrong," Joanne hissed, her voice shaking with something darker than regret, "but what would you know about that? I would do it again if I had the chance! In fact..." Her voice dropped to a near-whisper, yet the venom in it was unmistakable. "...I would have killed him!"

Renee gasped. "W-What did you say?" Her mind reeled. She had imagined a dozen scenarios — that Joanne had been coerced, manipulated, held at gunpoint; that she had been a victim of circumstance forced to stab Quinton in the dark. But never this. Never such raw, seething hatred. Shock rippled through Renee as she realized she had been incredibly wrong.

"Can you tell me what Night Demon did to make you hate him so much?" Renee pressed, her voice trembling with urgency. "You guys were on good terms in the past, and you were always the angel who protected him and kept him company. Why did you —"

"Hmph, angel?"

Joanne's laugh cut through the darkness like a shard of broken glass — bitter and cold, laced with a pain so deep that Renee could almost feel it. It was not a question. It was a mockery of every kind memory anyone had ever forced upon her.

The silence that followed was suffocating.

Renee stood there, heart pounding, her mind racing with questions. Who was the real Joanne? Was she a traitor, a victim, or a survivor carrying a truth too heavy to share? Somewhere deep in the shadows of Joanne's past, there was a secret — one that could destroy everything Renee thought she knew...

### Reader's Impressions & Star Rating

What a fantastic and emotionally layered chapter! I loved the sudden switch from the tense banquet hall to the suffocating darkness of the dungeon — it gave the whole story such a claustrophobic, gripping atmosphere. Renee's brave yet reckless decision to confront Benjamin makes her such a compelling heroine, and Joanne's unexpected hostility was genuinely heart-stopping. The way Joanne's voice broke at the memory of Quinton, only to harden into pure venom, is some masterful character writing. This chapter has deepened the mystery and left me starving for more answers.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 4.8 / 5 Stars

### Next Chapter Prediction

Now that Renee has been thrown into the dungeon face-to-face with the very woman she came to save, the next chapter will most likely force Joanne to confront her painful history with Quinton. I predict that Renee will finally pry open the truth about what Night Demon did to Joanne — and that truth may change everything she believes about her mission. Meanwhile, with Mr. Osborne having already intervened on Renee's behalf once, it is only a matter of time before he personally appears at the dungeon door. Is Renee being protected by a powerful ally, or is she walking into an even deadlier trap?
