Mark
Mark lay tangled in the sheets, catching his breath, his pulse still thrumming from the release.
The physical pleasure, so consuming and intense only seconds before, was already
dissipating, slipping through his fingers like sand. He closed his eyes, letting himself linger in
the warmth of the moment, the satisfaction that, as always, felt like it should be enough. But
as he lay there, staring up at the ceiling, that familiar hollowness started cre eping back in,
settling somewhere de ep in his chest.
He rolled over, pulling the sheet up, feeling the quiet settle around him, thick and suffocating.
The woman beside him murmured something, her voice low and soft, but he barely heard
her. He couldn’t even remember her name. There was an ache welling up inside him, a
tension he couldn’t place, a sense of something missing that he couldn’t shake. He felt the
sting of tears pricking at the corners of his eyes, and before he knew it, a tear slipped down
his cheek, hot and unexpected.
He quickly wiped it away, his throat tight, feeling a wave of embarrassment and confusion.
Why was he feeling this way? He’d come here for release, for es cape. He’d told himself that
the fleeting pleasure was enough—that it was a break from everything weighing on him. But
now, with the quiet stretching out around him, he felt more alone than ever.
The woman shifted beside him, oblivious to his turmoil, and Mark turned slightly, shielding
his face, his chest tightening as more tears spilled over. He didn’t know why he felt this way,
couldn’t explain the sudden rush of sadness that seemed to cut through him, but it was there,
relentless and raw. In the silence, he realized that no matter how much he tried to fill the
emptiness, it k ept coming back, and this time, it felt de eper than ever.
