"Hah."
Seeing the guilt-ridden expression on Derek's face, Serena couldn't help but let out a short, sharp laugh.
It was a sound filled with cold mockery and undisguised disgust.
"Mr. Wynn, do you have any idea how... disgusting you look right now? It's enough to make a person sick."
Derek's eyes widened, his face turning deathly pale as if he'd been struck by lightning.
Those words...
He was all too familiar with them.
Because he had once said them himself.
He was the one who, with an air of condescending superiority, had told Serena, "Your groveling act is so disgusting it makes me want to throw up."
That was how he had once treated her.
Now, the same words were being thrown back at him.
They stabbed into his heart, causing an unbearable, wrenching pain.
"Serena... I know my attitude in the past hurt you, but... but you should have told me sooner. If I had known about your abilities, I would have protected you," Derek said, his fists clenched, a pleading tone creeping into his voice.
Serena truly laughed this time.
For the past four years, she had dedicated herself to the Wynn family, trying with all her might to please every single one of them.
She had shattered all her pride, practically begging for their so-called familial affection.
And they had treated her with nothing but contempt.
Their disgust for her seemed innate.
Now that she no longer cared for their affection, no longer needed it, they were shamelessly crawling back to her.
It was pathetic, wasn't it?
"Even now, you're still using excuses to cover up your failures as a brother."
Serena's sneer was laced with contempt. "Derek, looking at your face right now, I truly feel like my four years of devotion to the Wynn family were a colossal joke."
"I yearned for your affection, poured my heart and soul out for you like a fool, giving
you everything I had. All I got in return was your scorn and insults."
"And now, you have the audacity to turn around and question me? To ask why didn't try harder to prove myself to you time and again? Why should to a have to proven group of people who looked down on me from the very beginning?"
Serena's expression grew colder, and her gaze, fixed on Derek, became filled with impatience and revulsion. "Selfishness is carved into the very bones of everyone in the Wynn family. You only ever caree about your own feelings, your own interests. You don't understand what real family is, and you don't deserve it."
"I have already severed all ties with the Wynn family. I'd appreciate it if the great Dr. Wynn would stop bothering me in the future."
With that, she couldn't be bothered to look at him for another second. She turned
away in disgust and started walking toward the area where Brianna was having her tests.
"Wait!"
Derek had finally managed to find Serena; how could he let her leave so easily?
His face was pale, but his eyes were blazing red.
He couldn't accept that Serena's medical skills surpassed his own.
He couldn't accept that she dared to treat him with such an attitude.
Every word she spoke was like a needle, piercing him with excruciating pain.
He reached out to grab Serena's arm again. "What do you mean, severed ties? I don't acknowledge it! Asdong as don't acknowledge it, you will always be my sister, Derek's sister
"I didn't say you could go! How dare you walk away?!"
Serena's brow furrowed sharply, her eyes turning to ice.
She was just about to twist Derek's outstretched arm and slam him to the ground.
"Mr. Wynn, what do you think you're doing?!"
A clear voice suddenly cut in.
A handsome young man in a white coat was striding toward them.
