Patrick frowned and shot Marianne a glare before putting on a smile to smooth things over. "Mom, don't be angry with Marianne. She's just worried about the Wynn Group, that's why she's so anxious."
"In my opinion, why don't you and Serena just come back to Vaelion City with us? Living out here in the countryside, you're so far away. If anything happens, we can't take care of you."
Before Old Mrs. Wynn could answer.
Marianne screeched, her voice shrill as she cut him off. "Go to Vaelion City? What for?! The four brats at home are already a handful! The company is a mess of problems, and we're overwhelmed. Who has the spare time to wait on you two? Isn't it chaotic enough?"
She pointed at Patrick and said furiously, "No! Absolutely not!"
Old Mrs. Wynn hugged the silent, trembling little Serena tightly, her gaze toward Patrick turning desolate.
Especially when Patrick, faced with Marianne's refusal, remained silent with a pained expression on his face.
Old Mrs. Wynn's heart grew even colder.
"Don't worry, I won't go back with you," Old Mrs. Wynn's voice turned cold. "I'll stay here and watch over the house your father left behind! But... I worry about my granddaughter! I only ask that you two, as her parents, find a little space for Serena in your hearts. Come back and see her when you have time! Do you have any idea how much she misses you? She cries herself to sleep thinking about you!"
"Misses us? I think she just looks for ways to cause us trouble!" Marianne retorted angrily. “Look at her. What's to like? She's no help at all, just a constant burden! Do you have any idea how hard we work out there every day?"
"That's enough!" Old Mrs. Wynn couldn't take it anymore, her brow furrowed as she roared, "How old is Serena? What does she know? If you don't want this daughter, then don't ever come back! Just pretend we both died here in the countryside!"
"Fine by me! You think I enjoy coming here?" Marianne spat. “You think I want to come to this godforsaken place? This little jinx, you can have her. It's not like I want her anyway..."
“Shut up!” Patrick suddenly yanked Marianne back, giving her a harsh, warning glare.
Then, he forced a smile at Old Mrs. Wynn. "Mom, what are you saying? Please don't listen to Marianne's nonsense How could we notwan Serena? She's our daughter.
“It's just that the company is just starting out, and we're really stretched thin.”
“And Serena is still so little. We're just afraid we'd neglect her while we're busy with work. We feel most at ease with her staying with you."
As he spoke, he nudged Marianne's arm with his hand.
Marianne suddenly remembered.....
Old Mrs. Wynn still held the company's original shares, and the largest portion at that!
Her expression changed. She forced down her rage and let out a reluctant, cold snort.
But in the end she couldn't resist shooting a cold glare at little Serena in Old Mrs. Wynn's arms. "You need to be more sensible from now on. Don't have your grandmother callus over every little thing. Don't use your grandma to threaten us!"
Patrick tried to smooth things over "Serena, your mother is just worried
you'll interfere with
Our work
Mommy and Daddy are earning
money for you."

Little Serena's eyes were misty with tears. Her small body trembled violently, and
her voice was a muffled, choked explanation. "I didn't..."
But the look in Marianne's eyes had already condemned her.
