But it was good that they were coming.
This was the best opportunity to pull these rats out by the roots and wipe them all out in one fell swoop. It would save her the trouble of dealing with their constant meddling.
Still, it would be a bit of a hassle.
This was Elyndor, not the Gray Zone.
When the time came... she'd have to keep her hands clean and cover her tracks perfectly, leaving no loose ends.
After all, her organization, the Phantom Syndicate, had invested a great deal of effort to establish its network within Elyndor.
She absolutely could not risk tipping off the Elyndor authorities and drawing their attention to the Syndicate.
As Serena was lost in deep, solemn thought.
"Serena, what's wrong?" Catherine, who had been watching her daughter closely, keenly sensed the change in her demeanor.
She asked with concern, "Did you run into some kind of trouble?”
The other three Lancaster men all looked over. "What's wrong? What trouble? Tell us, don't try to carry everything on your own."
Old Mr. Lancaster's gaze rested on Serena's face, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Serena, the Lancaster family will always be your strongest support."
Faced with her family's concerned eyes, the warmth in Serena's heart deepened.
It was for that very reason that she couldn't drag her family into the matters from Norvane.
Serena paused for a moment, then curved her lips into a smile. “Grandpa, Mom, Dad, Julian, I need to move out for a while."
"What? Move out?!"
"Why?"
"Is there something about the house that's making you uncomfortable?"
Catherine had the strongest reaction. "Serena, why the sudden decision to move out? Is it... is it something I did? Did I make you feel wronged? You can tell me, I can change anything!"
"Or is it because of that bunch of bastards from the Wynn family?!" Old Mr. Lancaster slammed his hand on the table, his chest heaving with anger. "Serena, had Colin look into it last night. The life you dived with the Wynns... what kind of life was that! They abandoned you in the countryside without a second
thought, and when they finally
brought you back..."
Old Mr. Lancaster was too furious to continue, clutching his chest and gasping for breath. "Don't you worry. I'll have them run out of Vaelion City today! They'll never recover!"
If it hadn't been for how the Wynns treated Serena, how could she, at just twenty years old, be so jaded? She completely lacked the energy and emotion a girl her age should have.
If it weren't for the Wynns, how could the normally composed and strong Serena have cried so heartbrokenly in her sleep?
"Grandpa, you haven't fully recovered yet. You shouldn't get so worked up." Serena's eyes curved slightly, her cool, bright gaze softening with a warm smile. “Let me finish."
"You've all been wonderful to me, and I'm very happy here. The warmth and love you've given me are things I never felt in twenty years with the Wynn family."
"But my decision to move out has nothing to do with the Wynns. They aren't worthy of influencing my choices."
"It's for the research institute. Mr.
Harrison is leading a key national
project and they need me to
oversee it. The project is classified and requires me to be on call at all times."
"The institute is a bit far from home, and the commute would waste too much time. Besides, it really requires intense focus and the project timeline is tight so I plan to stay at the institute for a while."
