Isabella watched as Serena, under the family's reluctant gazes, got into Nicholas's car and drove away from the Lancaster estate.
She bit her lip, nearly mad with jealousy.
Looking at that black Maybach, she was reminded of her embarrassing moment from the previous night-
The black Maybach. That was Nicholas's car.
When she saw it appear at the Lancaster estate, her first thought was...
Nicholas is here!
She was aware that since Serena's return, Nicholas had visited the Lancasters more times than in the past decade combined.
But as long as Nicholas came to the estate, it was an opportunity for her!
Isabella had immediately rushed to the entrance and, upon seeing the Maybach, called out in a saccharine voice, "Nicholas."
She knew he was almost certainly there for Serena.
So, her only option was to use Serena as a way to get Nicholas to acknowledge her.
Thus, she had made Serena the topic of conversation. "Nicholas, are you here to see Serena? She... isn't back yet."
She continued, lowering her gaze with a worried expression. "Serena's been like this a lot lately... either staying out all night or not coming home until the early hours. She knows the family is staying up waiting for her, but she doesn't seem to care that Grandpa and our parents are getting on in years..."
"While I strongly disapprove of her... always messing around outside, she is the apple of their eye, so I don't dare say much... I just feel bad for you, Nicholas. I'm afraid you've made a trip for nothing."
The person hadn't even gotten out of the car yet, and Isabella had already finished her entire performance.
So, when the door opened and out stepped Serena-the one person who made her blood boil just by looking at her—she froze completely.
Getting caught red-handed talking trash about someone, right to their face.
What if...
What if Serena told their parents what she had just said?
She would be finished!
Isabella's face turned pale.
This was immediately followed by a wave of intense jealousy.
Why was Serena driving Nicholas's car?
How could Serena be driving Nicholas's car?
How could Nicholas possibly let Serena drive his car?
When did Serena and Nicholas get so close?
Could it be that when Nicholas mentioned wanting to honor the engagement between their families, he wasn't joking?
While Isabella was fuming and dumbfounded, Serena got out of the car with calm composure and shot her a cool glance.
Then, she said nonchalantly, "Next time you want to put on your little act, make sure you know who you're performing for."
Isabella was furious.
To make it worse, as Serena walked past her toward the house, she
deliberately threatened her, Isabella
when I come home, or if
home, is none of your business.”
“If you have a problem with that, we can take it directly to Mom and Dad and have a nice, long talk."
A threat!
A blatant threat!
That damn country girl! She was just flaunting the fact that she was the favorite! And she was using their parents to threaten her?
Standing by the floor-to-ceiling window, Isabella's fingers nearly tore the curtain.
Don't think that just because you're driving Nicholas's car, you're actually his fiancée!
Don't think that just because Old Mr.
Blackwood invited you to Bria
coming-of-age party, he's truly acknowledged you as his future
Onddes inter-in-law!
We'll see who gets the last laugh!
To make her story convincing, Serena called Mr. Harrison after leaving the
Lancaster estate to get their stories straight.
In return, Mr. Harrison used the opportunity to rope her into taking over a remote chip development project. Only then did he agree to "corroborate her story" for her family.
