The slap was incredibly loud.
Derek could feel a searing pain spreading across his cheek.
It was clear Serena had held nothing back.
He was stunned by the pain.
And stunned by the act itself.
He never imagined that the sister who had once meekly called him "big brother,"
trailing after him like a lost puppy and begging for a shred of his attention...
Would actually strike him.
Derek stared blankly at Serena.
With an impassive expression, Serena moved the hand that had struck Derek's face to his shoulder.
She shoved him hard.
Derek stumbled, nearly falling to the ground.
Serena walked straight toward the patient.
"Serena, are you crazy!"
Derek finally regained his footing, his face ashen as he glared at her.
Serena walked to the patient's side, her eyes scanning his face before she said coolly, "Hold down his arms and legs."
The doctors and nurses attending to the patient hadn't been present for the last incident, so they didn't recognize Serena.
But upon hearing her command, they almost instinctively complied.
It was just that this girl...
Her presence was too commanding.
It made people unconsciously submit to her will.
Only after they had secured the patient's limbs did they realize what they'd done.
They were bewildered as to why they had obeyed so readily.
Just as they were about to ask what the young woman was planning,
they saw her casually pull a small cloth pouch from the canvas bag slung over her shoulder.
Then, a glint of cold light flashed between her fingertips.
With a few swift movements,
a series of barely audible hisses cut through the air.
In the blink of an eye, several fine needles were embedded in key points on the patient's body.
The patient let out a pained scream and began to struggle violently against the intense pain.
Fortunately, two doctors and nurses were already holding him down, keeping him from thrashing about.
Derek gritted his teeth and rushed over. "Serena, why are you so stubborn?!"
The muscles in his face twitched as he spoke, causing him to grimace in pain.
The simmering rage in his heart intensified, and he raised his hand to push Serena away. "Have you even looked at his chart? This patient's tumonhas turned malignant
can
requires surgery only surgery solve this! Do you really think a few
needles are going to make the
tumor disappear?"
If traditional medicine were truly so miraculous, would it have fallen into decline?
Throughout Elyndor, modern
medicine reigned supreme. To
someone like Derek, that
as proof
enough that the ancient healing arts were obsolete.
"The patient's skyrocketing blood pressure is starting to fall!"
"His vital signs are gradually returning to normal!"
"The bleeding has stopped!"
A nurse who was monitoring the equipment suddenly cried out in amazement.
Derek's rant came to an abrupt halt. He stared, his face a mask of shock.
He saw that all the data on the monitors was improving at a visible rate.
His mouth trembled in disbelief as he scrambled over to the equipment to see the readings for himself.
The other emergency doctors also stared with wide, astonished eyes. "Wow, young lady, you really know what you're doing!"
They had assumed that any practitioner with real skill in traditional medicine would have to be an elderly master.
But this girl looked no older than twenty, yet her medical skills were so advanced.
While checking the patient's pulse, Serena said, "This is the golden window for surgery. Start prepping him now."
Derek's head snapped up, his
sunken eyes dark. "Surgery? Easy for
you to say! Do you think this,
operation is child's play? Dont
know..."
