The encounter with Derek at the hospital was barely a ripple in Serena's day.
After explaining the details of the minimally invasive technique and the entire treatment plan for the patient to Mr. Flint,
she drove back to the Lancaster estate.
As soon as she stepped into the main hall,
she saw Catherine and Edward emerging in their sleepwear. Their expressions visibly relaxed when they saw her. "Serena, why so late?"
"I ran into an emergency patient at the hospital, which held me up," Serena said as she walked over. "Didn't I tell you to get some rest and not wait up for me?"
"It's alright, we just woke up anyway," Catherine said, taking Serena's hand with a gentle smile.
In truth, there were many things they could guess.
For instance, when their precious daughter had suddenly left home to live elsewhere for a while.
And then there was Hazel, who had come from the countryside looking for her.
Catherine could piece most of it together...
Her daughter must have left home because she was involved in something dangerous.
She was afraid of worrying them, of implicating them.
And Hazel...
She seemed well-behaved, but her actions were bold and free-spirited, and it was clear she had excellent combat skills.
And Hazel was a dear friend who had grown up with her daughter.
Catherine couldn't imagine what kind of childhood her precious daughter must have endured to become so exceptional.
There was a saying: with great power comes great responsibility.
Her daughter's abilities...
...meant her life was destined to be far from ordinary and peaceful.
How could she not worry?
But Catherine would never say any of this to Serena, not wanting to put more pressure on her.
She said warmly, "You've worked so hard, Serena. Saving two people in one night, you must be exhausted. Are you hungry? kept some wärm milk and a bowl of sweet porridge for you in the kitchen. Let me get it."
Serena was about to say she wasn't hungry, but Catherine was already heading to the kitchen.
Soon, Catherine returned with a bowl of warm, soothing congee and placed it on the table.
Serena went and sat down, picking up the bowl. The temperature was just right.
Her eyes curved into a smile. "Thanks, Mom."
Catherine and Edward sat with Serena, watching her eat.
"That's my girl," Edward said, his heart melting the more he looked at Serena. "How did my daughter get to be so amazing? She plays the piano so well and her medical skills are incredible! When saw you save Hank, my heart... I was just so
thrilled and moved."
Most importantly...
To think that Serena was the Ghost Doctor!
Because of Old Mr. Lancaster's legs, they had spent years and a fortune in manpower and resources, searching far and wide for the Ghost Doctor.
And to think...
The Ghost Doctor they had been desperately searching for all these years was their own daughter!
No wonder their daughter was so confident she could help Old Mr. Lancaster walk again.
It was simply too stunning.
The whole Lancaster family had been so overjoyed all night.
How could any of them possibly sleep?
Serena chuckled at her father's exaggerated expression.
Her features softened, and a gentle light bloomed in her clear, bright eyes. "I have a
lot of talents. Dad, you'll have even more to be excited about in the future."
Edward roared with laughter.
Catherine added, "After Brianna's coming-of-age party ended today, our phone hasn't stopped ringing! t was so late, and we had to tell them they couldn't disturb the old master's rest before they finally retented."
५
Serena swallowed a spoonful of porridge. "Were they asking you about me?"
