"Let's go."

His voice was cool and relaxed. "Don't ruin your eyes looking at worthless trash."

Adrian's pupils dilated as he stared in utter disbelief at their joined hands.

Such an intimate gesture.

It burned his eyes.

A wave of intense, suffocating resentment crashed over him.

But he didn't dare breathe a single word.

He simply lay there in the dirt, clutching his broken wrist in absolute defeat as he watched them walk right past him.

Just as they brushed past.

Nicholas paused slightly, glancing down at him from the corner of his eye with a smirk on his lips. "By the way."

"I happen to be all those men you claim she's throwing herself at."

Adrian's breath hitched violently. He stared at the two of them, stunned and terrified,

yet still unable to let go of his jealousy.

What did Nicholas... what did he mean by that?

Was he... actually acknowledging his relationship with her?

Was he laying claim to her right in front of him?

No... that was impossible!

Who was Nicholas?

He was the untouchable heir to the Blackwood family, a man standing at the absolute pinnacle of power.

How could he possibly be interested in a country girl like her?

Even if she was Skye! Even if she was Queen!

Nothing could erase where she came from!

How could Nicholas not care about that?

His eyes were wide as he stared fixedly at their retreating figures disappearing into the night.

"Ugh,"

He was so infuriated he practically choked on his own rage.

Serena let Nicholas pull her along for a while before trying to slip her hand free.

But his grip held firm.

She frowned. "Why are you here?"

He squeezed her hand tighter, his thumb casually tracing the soft skin of her palm

as he spoke in a low rumble. "Finished up at the office and thought I'd swing by to pick you up."

A smile touched his lips, his striking eyes looking especially deep under the moonlight. "I am your personal chauffeur, after all."

"I'm waiting for Hazel Carring," Serena replied.

Nicholas raised an eyebrow at that, flashing a deeply meaningful smile. "I highly doubt she has time for you right now."

"What?"

What did he mean she didn't have time?

Confused, she pulled out her phone and dialed Black Jack's number.

It rang for a long time, but no one answered.

She hung up, ready to try again.

The man placed his other hand over hers. "Don't bother. She's with your brother."

"Huh?"

Her brother?

Why would Black Jack be with him? And why would she ignore her call?

"He's with her. Relax," Nicholas said, a smirk playing on his lips. "Come on, let's get you home."

He tugged her forward again.

She tried pulling her hand back but failed once more.

Resigning herself, she finally gave up and just let him lead the way.

As they walked, she looked down and fired off a quick text to Black Jack.

Meanwhile.

Vroom, vroom,

Over the roaring engine, she hummed her little food anthem, her mood absolutely soaring.

Her crimson dress whipped wildly in the wind. On the bright red bike, she looked like

a streak of pure fire.

Just as she zipped through a dimly lit alleyway.

A black luxury sedan suddenly tore out from around the corner without any warning.

"Holy shit!"

Her pupils contracted sharply, but

not a trace of panic crossed her wild features. Instead a thrilled grin broke out across her face.

Screeeeech,

The ear-piercing sound of slamming brakes tore through the night sky.

Black Jack violently yanked her handlebars to the side.

The bike drifted at a wickedly sharp angle, nearly scraping the brick wall.

She missed the hood of the luxury car by sheer inches, pulling off a heart-stopping swerve!
