The air around Kieran and Narcissa had turned cold, even though the party around them remained warm and glittering. Narcissa had just delivered a poisonous little speech, full of hints and half-truths, and yet Kieran had answered her with only four icy words:
"That's my business."
Narcissa let out a laugh. It wasn't a pleasant sound — it was the kind of laugh that came from deep frustration, from a woman who had tried everything and still couldn't crack the wall around a stubborn man. She shook her head slowly, then let her gaze drift across the room to where Celeste stood, glowing in the distance, surrounded by admirers and polite conversation.
"Do you really think you know her that well?" Narcissa asked, her voice turning silkier but no less sharp. "The truth is, what she did to Wynn is just the tip of the iceberg. She's done plenty of disgusting things you just don't know about."
She couldn't understand it. How could Kieran — who was smart, powerful, and not easily fooled — so willingly fall for a woman like Celeste, especially after everything Celeste had supposedly done to Wynn? But then again, Narcissa reasoned, Celeste was undeniably beautiful. There was no arguing with that. She had an elegant, gentle temperament, the kind that made her seem harmless and kind at first glance. It was dangerously easy for people to be fooled by her, easy to develop a good impression without ever seeing what lay beneath.
Wasn't that exactly what had happened to her own brother?
Even after Celeste had refused to work with the Lackspur family because of their personal conflict, her brother had somehow still developed a favorable opinion of her. That only proved how skilled Celeste was at playing the innocent. If Narcissa hadn't known about Celeste's past, she might have been deceived by that refined appearance and calm demeanor herself.
But she *did* know.
She remembered the underhanded methods Celeste had used to marry Trevor. She remembered everything Celeste had done to target Wynn. None of it had been swept away by time, no matter how beautifully Celeste had moved forward with her life. Those memories burned in Narcissa's mind, and her eyes filled with undisguised contempt.
From the way she spoke, it almost sounded as though she knew things that Kieran didn't — secrets buried beneath the glittering surface of Celeste's perfect persona. Even so, Kieran did not waver. He trusted Celeste. He also trusted his own judgment. And no amount of bitter words from Narcissa was going to change that.
So, he didn't respond. He simply kept his gaze fixed on Celeste, watching her move through the room like a quiet queen.
Wherever she went now, she naturally became the center of attention. She was brilliant and radiant, and yet still so modest and gentle. She would smile politely, offer a soft word, or share a graceful gesture, and everyone around her would simply fall deeper under her spell. Kieran couldn't take his eyes off her. Honestly? He didn't want to.
Narcissa had said so much — too much — but when she turned and saw that Kieran remained completely unmoved, that his eyes still held only Celeste, her frustration curled into fury.
"Do you even know that Celeste—" She almost blurted it out. The truth about Celeste and Trevor. The ugly, complicated secret that hovered in the air like smoke. But then she stopped herself.
Because even though Celeste and Trevor weren't officially divorced yet — and whatever underhanded means Celeste might have used to become Trevor's wife in the first place — as long as they were still legally married, exposing the truth would also cast Wynn in an awkward light. It would drag her friend's name through the mud, and Narcissa wasn't willing to do that. Not even to wake Kieran from his stubborn infatuation.
She looked at Kieran again, her eyes searching his face for any crack, any sign of doubt. There was none. His heart and his eyes were entirely occupied by Celeste, and none of her warnings had managed to get through to him.
"Forget it," Narcissa finally said, giving up on trying to persuade him. "Since you refuse to listen, I won't waste my time anymore. I just hope that when you finally see what kind of person she really is, you won't be too shocked."
A mocking smile curved her lips as she delivered that last line. Then, without another word, she turned and walked away, leaving Kieran standing alone with the faint buzz of the party around him.
Kieran frowned as he watched her leave.
Not because he believed her. Not even for a second. But her last remark had simply been too harsh, too malicious toward Celeste. It left an unpleasant feeling in his chest, like a splinter he couldn't quite pull out. He hated how easily people tried to tarnish her name when they knew nothing about who she truly was.
Meanwhile, across the room, Xavier took a lazy sip of his drink and glanced at the time. Then he yawned and said, "It's already past nine. This is getting boring. How about we head out?"
Jorge took a sip of his own drink, his expression calm and slightly secretive. "I want to stay a little longer. If you're bored, you can leave first."
Xavier blinked, a little stunned by the answer. But he didn't need to think twice to know exactly why Jorge wanted to stay. It was because of Wynn. Jorge just wanted to see her a little more, to soak in her presence before the night ended. It was obvious, even if not spoken aloud.
Too lazy to argue, Xavier turned to Caleb instead. "Caleb, if he's not leaving, then—"
"I'd like to stay a while longer too," Caleb interrupted smoothly.
Xavier's eyebrow twitched in surprise. But Caleb's reason was just as clear. Celeste had been occupied greeting guests all evening. He hadn't wanted to interrupt her, so all he could do was wait nearby until she had a free moment. He still wanted the chance to say a few words to her before the night slipped away entirely.
Hearing Caleb's answer, Jorge paused for a moment, but he didn't say anything.
And so the night stretched on, with emotions simmering beneath the surface — unspoken desires, stubborn hearts, and dangerous secrets all waiting for the right moment to break free.

## Reader's Impressions & Star Rating
What a tense and beautifully layered chapter! The confrontation between Narcissa and Kieran was so well-written — you could feel her frustration and his quiet, stubborn devotion pulling in opposite directions. It made me respect Kieran's loyalty, but also desperately want to know what Narcissa almost revealed. The way the chapter shifted from that heavy conversation to the quieter moment with Xavier, Jorge, and Caleb was a lovely touch, giving us a glimpse of the different loves and lingering feelings orbiting around Celeste. Every character feels so human, so deeply attached to their own perspective, and that makes the drama all the more gripping.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rating: 4.8 / 5 Stars
## Next Chapter Prediction
Now that Narcissa has planted a seed of doubt — even if Kieran refused to acknowledge it — I suspect those hidden truths about Celeste and Trevor won't stay buried for much longer. Caleb might finally get his chance to speak with Celeste, but will he push a little too hard? And will Kieran continue to dismiss Narcissa's warning until it's too late? I predict that the next chapter will bring the secret closer to the surface, and someone is going to be caught between loyalty and the devastating truth.
